Hi
i repair a friends old outboard envirude 7.5 hp (s/n 8008699 model E8BALCTA)
that has a hole from corosion at the exhaust section (see pictures).Behind of what you see at a small circle round the hole the metal has beenb decreased but the rest of the surface seems ok.Is this repairable? What is the apropriate kind of welding? And isn't enough to take out the 6 bolts under the block to pull it out?
Thanks in advance

God ya, that's peanuts. Dont' even pull the powerhead. Go yet yourself some JB Marineweld, clean the area well, mix some Marineweld up, cover the hole with the JB and wait a 4 hrs for it to dry. Put a gasket on the cover and bolt it back up. Fixed.

Thanks for the info but
The rings look rusty. The engine had possibly overheating and stalled. The cylinders look good.Isn't it better to replace rings and go to a workshop to weld the hole to be sure that it won't unstick at the future?
So why the head doesn't come up?

If you wanna take the entire powerhead apart and rebuild it by all means go ahead. I was just giving you a quick means of fixing it and jb weld doesn't unstick. You should get yourself a manual which will explain how to remove the powerhead.

What model # is it? And I agree. JB weld the hole. Solve one issue, then move on to any others. When did the engine last run?

OK that's a 1983 longshaft. Almost exactly the same as my 1984 6hp.

Remove the lower unit first but take the extension of with it!. Other than than no complications. Drive shaft pulls out from crankshaft, shift rod pulls out too. Water tube pulls from pump.

Disconnect electrical stuff but label up what goes where.

Unbolt power head, 6 bolts from underneath.

Rock backwards and forwards to break the joint (it wont rock side ways 'cos of the inner exhaust tube) and lift it off. Pry it carefully from back and front if you have to.

When refitting LU fit the extension to the exhaust housing first so that you can guide the water tube into the pump.

It was impossible to lift the head up either to get the lower unit down. Finally i disassembled the whole block on the stud so as the only thing that was left was the cranksaft.then the reason of not separating was obvious. The top of the shaft was extremely stuck into the coupler.Applying heat and with raps at a piece of iron that i adjusted at the top of the crank finally it disengaged. Now may you tell me if there is any reason to repair this part of the exaust (see pict)
