Hi again guys, how ya all doing?

I need your help with one thing.

I need to remove the rotor so I can get to the sensor, ignition timing.

I see a big nut to remove, so anything going to fall out

or break when I remove it?

Thanks

If you are planning on keeping this motor buy a manual. There are things that may get over looked without one. Good Luck.

I just got into boating, and waffles is right get a manual. I have been an auto mechanic for 25 years, and even with a factory manual things can be a little confusing the first time. i can't image going into an engine without knowing what i would find.I did it a lot when is was a kid and a lot of those thing never went back together. also very good idea to use a camera to take pictures of everything so you have a referance of how things go.even the manuals picture can be hard to decifer. good luck

Re: 1982 Suzuki outboard dt40

Before you get to far ahead of yourself, what is wrong with the engine? What were the symptoms and why do you need to get to the timing?

I am not trying to be overly complicated or drag out the thread, but it is possible that you are trying to solve an issue that has nothing to do with the timing.... So let us know so we can help...

However, it is entirely possible that you know exactly what is wrong and what you are doing, except for the one question posted. If so, my bad....

Fill us in... Thanks....

Re: 1982 Suzuki outboard dt40

Thanks for the advice.

I did order a manual, I wanted to start work till it got here.

I do not have spark in one of the wires from the ignition timing sensor

to the cd unit. There are two ignition timing sensors and I know of nothing between them and the cd unit.

I hope it is debris or rust causing the problem, but reguardless I must look.

Thanks

Couple of things here to advise here... While you are waiting for your manual, go here (http://www.danssouthsidemarine.com/assets/layouts/main_layout/parts/DT40(83).pdf) and download the parts catalog. It has exploded views of the different segments of the engine...

Also, before you get to involved with tedious ignition timing, settings and expensive parts, call Browns Point Marina and talk to a tech about performing resistance tests onthe coil/wire sets. It might be something as simple as you needing new spark plug caps (they are replaceable). I have this issue on my '85 DT115...
