Welcome to iboats, sorry this is why you found us.

You are going to have to tear down, at least partially.
Start at the top and work down, you may be able to get to it without removing too much.

Sorry.

First thing to do [if you don't already have one] is to get a good service manual for your motor, they are worth their weight in gold, and the better ones will walk you through most every repair that pops up.You should be able to purchase one here at IBOATS for your model and between it[the manual] and the good folks here on the forum, will have you going quick. Also if its been awhile since the water pump impeller has been replaced,DO IT NOW!!!!. The impeller replacement is covered at the beginning of this forum under a sticky called "step by step impeller change" or something close to that The impeller should also be available here at IBOATS, keep us posted on your progress. Re: pivot pin problem 75 hp

Roscoe, You were right but had to tear down the entire lower unit all the way and remove the prop and bearing cage and slide the entire propeller shaft out about 2 inches. Still took about 45 min to get the pivot coupling and the shift yoke onto the shift shaft and to put back the pivot pin screw. Never REMOVE THIS SCREW!!! I did get a chance to inspect gear sets and get all the old gear lube out they all look like new, I did install a new impeller old one was only 1 year old and looked perfect but I had new one as a back up. Very hard to put lower unit back on by yourself. Ran motor for about 15 min shifts great no leaks yet! Took about 5 hours to finish just because I removed the third mistery screw!!! Thanks for your help!!

Re: pivot pin problem 75 hp

I usually put a small dab of RTV on the head of that screw, just so no one ever puts a screwdriver or wrench on that one and gives it a turn. Can't turn it if the screwdriver doesn't fit in the head.

Glad you got it back together.
