Carb question...

I was draining carbs before winter (without a manual & without ever owning an outboard)... 1989 115 2 stroke yamaha

1. Are the drain screws on the side of each carb (small brass and slotted) rather than on the bottom?

I took these out to drain the carb bowls and found that the ones on the lower two carbs were very difficult to access... had to link together a ridiculous amount of extensions and u-joints to get to them...

2. When I did remove them I found they had a small metal washer rather than an O-ring (others mentioned them having an O-ring) is this correct?

3. Are there any products available to use in place of the screws? e.g. Does anyone know of a small Schrader valve or something to put there?

4. Lastly, does the silencer cover need a new gasket from yamaha (it was missing)/is the yamaha gasket reusable of self adhesive and could I just use RTV instead?

thanks

Re: Carb question...

Does anyone have any tricks for accessing the lower drain screws? I cant imagine doing that more than once a year...

Also they say they are just drain plugs but they are hollow and have a hole through them... what is the point of that... The parts diagram clearly calls them drain screws?

thanks

Re: Carb question...

Why not just run stabil through the carbs and be done with it????

Works good and no nead to drain the carbs

You can reuse the rubber gaskets and yes replace the one that's missing.

Re: Carb question...

Its going into winter storage and I was concerned that the excess fuel left in the bowl would gum up the carbs over winter... I did but some stabilizer in the fuel... but Im in Minnesota where we already put a lot of ethanol in the fuel (even more in winter but thats another deal).

From what Ive read its something of a debate... Ive got to say its a big pain to reach those lower ones and it deters me from doing it again, that why I was hoping for a trick or tip or just a valve to install...

thanks for the input

PS does anyone know where I could get a carb rebuild kit for an 89 115 2 stroke, I can only find them for 90 and newer?
