Do anything to outboard for the winter?

I have a 1962 Johnson 9.5 hp outboard, first boat motor of any kind I've owned. For the winter I'm putting it in my basement to keep it warm so I don't have to winterize it. Is there anything else I should do to it for the winter? Thanks.

Pull the plugs and give the cylinders a quick shot of storage spray while you rotate the motor slowly, drain the carbs of residual fuel to prevent varnish formation and give her a shot of storage spray through them while you hold the throttle wide open. Change the lower end oil and remove the prop to extract any fishing line that may have accumulated behind it which might cut the prop shaft seal next year when you start her up again.

Enjoy the winter, content you have her stored safely.;)

Thanks! Should I just drain the oil and then fill it next year? Or refill it now?

Refill it now, so you dont forget. Youll be ready for next spring.
