Re: TILT Problem again

are you trying to move the drive UP or DOWN? Seems to me the UP solenoid would take the worst beating. It would be interesting to see the current draw going UP vs going DOWN?

i think most likely it will be both of the solenoid which is the up and down.. before it use to be just the up.. now its both. i think the more i mess with it. the more i damage..

i will switch the wiring for the TIlt and switch it to the trim. it will be easyer that way seens its next together.. most likely its the Solenoid

Re: TILT Problem again

I don't know about your '83 but my '75 has two solenoids for the tilt. One for the UP and one for the Down. I do not have TRIM. As there is more effort required, the UP solenoid would experience the most wear.

My Boat also has Two Solenoid. One for up and One for down..

before i was able to bring the stern-drive down and was able to bring it up but very very slowly and stop half way up.

now it will not go up or down even when the fuse is good or having a jumper cable directly connected to the positive side of the solenoid...

is there a easy way to test solenoid?

Measure the voltage drop across the relay when you are applying power to it. That means put one lead on the power going to the relay and one on the lead to the motor. Should measure very low voltage drop.

I assume you mean to take the reading while hitting the tilt switch?

Assume i do this test today... i connect ampmeter negative on the positive side of the Solenoid and the ampmeter positive to the wire going to the Tilt Motor..

What voltage should it show? what is to low and what is to high. and what is normal?

i believe the positive side of the solenoid should be the same voltage as the battery.

Re: TILT Problem again

No Ammeter...you use a voltmeter! Should be very close to zero volts.

It doesn't matter which side you put positive or negative.

Yes you measure while trying to tilt the motor.

Great Tools. yes sorry its called Voltmeter. haha

. This is call Drop Test. just like what Howard Mention..

Gezz. little things like this is very helpfull in alot of application beside using it on my boat....

Love this website. i just wish i could afford the part they sale to support this site... Thanks guys for the reply. Crap now i sound like a JOKE:D:eek:
