The lower unit is not an electronic. The motor runs but I removed the drain screw from the lower unit to look for water to drain out and it did. I decided it would be best to fix that problem before running it to much thanks to the advise posted in this forum. I tried putting the shifter in gear by moving the lever at the motor. In reverse the prop grabs but in forward it slips. Any advice would be great thank you everyone.

First of all what screw did you remove, slotted or phillips?

If you're going into reverse okay but forward is slipping, I would guess that either the bellcrank is worn or the shifter needs adjusted.

When the water came out, did it have oil in it? I'm not sure which plug you pulled.

If you removed a phillips headed screw, like on a Merc, thatsNOT the drain, its a pivot screw for the shift dog. The drain is waaay at the bottom, and a straight head screw. I know this, believe me. Repairing is easy, just remove the lower unit, remove the bottom skeg piece, and reassemble, with the lower unit upside-down....

The screw I removed was at the very bottom and it was a flathead screw about the size of a dime. Water came out first then a little black oil or lube. Do you think that would do alot of damage. Also I am having problems removing the lower unit. Thanks for everyones help.

Yup, bad seals in the lower unit allowing water to get in. You really need a factory service manual to work on the motor.
