Re: Gotta love "youtube"!

the one of the guy near shore--this fall a guy was killed in a situation like that; boat about that size in big surf at a jetty; boat rolled on a wave and passenger hit his head, fell over and died (no PFD of course). Look at the passenger in the video flying up in the air--and not visible after that!

The good news is that I have a similar boat/motor, so now I know what it can--and would--do if I were caught like that. Some ship's wakes around here can be as scary. I wouldn't get in it intentionally though.

What some people will do for a fish!

That's from a surfing video a few years ago. They were on the inside of the shore break filming riders when the thing wouldn't start. The guy on the helm panicked and when the motors caught he hit it and launched that bad boy...
Crappy boat handling - lucky is all. Good song though.

When I was a kid, we used to do that in a 12' "whaler type" hull on purpose. There is a technique that involves using just enough power to get over the wave, but not so much that you launch off the crest.

I screwed up and launched off of the crest one day in a cold molded mahoghany boat - all I can say is that those are some tough boats, if they are in good condition. I dropped a good 4 feet and fully expected the transom to be gone when I turn around. It wasn't and there was no structutal damage!

Punching the throttle and hanging on is bad driving. Ya gotta come down that wave properly, usually coming off throttle. Ya gotta have a rhythm. And he made no attempt to steer.

Been in the breakers. Almost sh-t my pants, but if the engine is running, you can manage pretty big waves. I cringed at his 'technique".

Wow that really blows, couple nice boats TRASHED!
makes me wanna become a crane operator so I can rig it correctly...amazing how these people dont take into acct the motor weight or slippery hull surface etc

oh and the 3 people in the one boat WHILE it was being unloaded...that crane operator ought to be jailed and the 3 idiots in the boat need to be slapped upside the head.
