Motor Mounting holes NOT Lining up!!

I replaced the transom in my boat and when I drilled the holes for mounting the motor, I made sure I drilled them through the aluminum skin FIRST so that the holes would line up without any problems. Well, they don't. Anyone have any tips? All I did was remove the motor, lay it some pallets, replace the transom, and then pick the motor back up and placed it back on the transom. Should the bracket be posistioned in any particular way to make this easier?

So, I can assume you drilled though the original mounting holes when you replace the transom...are the new holes drilled perpendicular to the aluminum?

Did the motor mount ( can it? ) shift a little when the motor was moved?

If the bolts won't go through and you drilled where the original bolts went through using the original holes in the skin as your guide, than those are the only reasons I can think that would cause any problems with realignment.

did you drill the holes at the correct angle? i sometimes have to drill thru the motor mount itself to get the angle just right.

I guess I could try that. I just didn't want to add any unnecessary holes to the aluminum skin/ wood of the transom that I would need to fill in later.

Good to see you back working on it gunner. I just sold mine (for a good price) and have upgraded to an 18' SS. Working on doing all the same work over again! I may be crazy.

The mounting bracket couldn't really move any I don't think, but I'll check it out. I'll also post some pics. I haven't checked back here for a few days because I've been busy helping mu dad with his ttrapping and deer season started yeaterday. Got a good sized four pointer!
