Hi, I have a stubid question. I live in Kansas and got a boat and trailer from Iowa. The trailer have registration plate on it. I check Kansas trailer law and it said that if the operating weight is less then 2000Lbs then I don't have to register the trailer(I think it meant trailer + boat). Now how the hell do I know the weight?

P/s: my weighing mechine can only goes up to 300lbs :)

Re: trailer registration

Do you have a truck scale near you? A scrap yard? A gravel/sand quarry? Many of those places have scales...... even the Department Of Motor Vehicles has Officers that inspect trucks and they carry scales too. You should get it weighed.

What type of boat? 2000 lbs means yes the trailer PLUS the load (boat).

I would get everything weighed...... you either are under and no registration required or you are over and you spend a few bucks...... probably about $15-$20 which is not bad.

Re: trailer registration

Best bet is a feed mill or grain silo or truck stop.

Your Spectrum will likely come in under the 2000# threshold.

But the trailer may or may not be capable of carrying 2500#, so the dmv will go by that.

Check the trailer frame rails, top - bottom -front and rear, inside edges, etc. look for a trailer Gross vehicle rating sticker.
