Question about winterizing a 4.3 Volvo Penta

I am new to the inboard/outboard world. I have a 2006 Rinker 192 with a 4.3 Volvo Penta engine. When I drain the water from the drain plugs in the block, intake manifold and exhaust manifolds, should I leave the plugs out for the winter, or put them back in? Also, if I am going to fog the carburator, does anything need to be done in the spring as a result of the fogging?
Thanks,
Vic

Put them back or you might not be able to get them back in.
If you drain the block, corrosion starts NOW!!! Put antifreeze of any kind back in.The pink stuff is good, regular antifreeze is illegal to use as it will end up in the lake or river.Good luck.J

A lot of conflicting opinions on anti freeze. I'd do some searches in this section. Many here, with the most experience, do NOT recommend anything other than air . . . ;)

With that said, note I did not share my experience. Unlike Jerry, I have none because I have never winterized :p There has just been a lot of debate here and the big guns say no need

Yep,Air don't freeze but the pink RV antifreeze does have corrosion prohibitors..
Just depends on what makes you feel better...;)

No. Just start it up, the oil will burn off in a min, as it does it will smoke for a while. 'nutcase P.S: No need for anti-freeze, marine engines will wear out or break long before they rust out internally.

What do you think about leaving the plugs in or out? I am in north Alabama. Here, it could be 20 degrees at night and possibly 75 during the day during the winter. Condensation sometimes is a problem and I did'nt know if most people leave their plugs out until spring or put them back in. The local boat dealer here does not do the antifreeze thing, they dry store the engine block. Keep the experience coming, cause I am learning alot. Thanks, Vic

Ayuh,.... The drainplugs of the various barges I winterize live on the intake manifold all winter...
Other's feel that replacing the drain plugs helps preserve the threads in the block...
Either way,...
Condensation is never,+ could never be a freeze problem...
The volume needed to become an Issue just would never develop...

I like to put some marine grease (OMC/Bombardier triple guard grease or the Merc equivalent) on the threads and screw em back in....that way they don't get lost and the threads don't get corrosion in em and they WILL come out at the next winterization....
