Seeking help on recurring overheat problem at low speed and idle. At higher speeds, cooling seems fine. Recently had new thermostats and new water pump and gaskets installed by professional.
At start up and warm up, engine starts and runs fine. As engine continues to warm at idle or low speed, heat gradually increases to near danger zone on engine temp gage. Alarm will eventually sound and the SLOW system kicks in and prevents high RPMs. On long cool down, SLOW resets until heat builds up again.
Steady high RPM running keeps the temp gage dead center of the range, with water pressure in the 20-23 PSI range and motor runs fine. Only long idle and slow speed operation seems to increase temp to the alarm condition. During low speed operation, water pressure drops to 13 -15 PSI.
I am replacing temp sensors this weekend and have replaced engine temp gage with new gage with temps marked vice old gage with color codes. Also
have previously shot the head temps with IR temp sensor and max heat did not exceed 155-160 degrees.
Seems as if water flow is insufficent at low speeds? Anyone have any idea of potential causes?
