Attaching teak pulpit to bow

Hello, Boating newbie in need of everyones' wisdom.

The teak pulpit was off when we bought the boat. The bow has holes going through to the cuddy from when everything was together.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to re-attach pulpit to bow. Lag bolts and rubber or poly washers.

The pulpit base is just resting on the bow in the picture below.

The backside of the pulpit has the wires for the bow lights and I assume one of the holes is for the wires.

Since everything is off I'm thinking of adding remote spot light too.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Remote spot lights are AWESOME and if you can do it, I certainly would! I'm not sure where you'd fit it to the pulpit though. I'd put it on the bow rail or off to the side of the pulpit if it were me.

That is not just a bow pulpit. For re-installation reasons, It's important to note that it has an anchor roller as well as cleats. Those two issues would make me want to use the largest stainless steel bolts I could find and the largest backing plate in the cabin or in the hull that I could fit.

Both tying the boat off with those cleats and anchoring will put a LOT of stress on the pulpit and hull, so making sure it won't move is paramount. Spread the load out as much as possible, giving the pulpit the most contact with the hull you can.

I Agree with Dukesfin and make sure the pulpit is well sealed underneath. Are the round plugs in the teak lined up with holes thru the bow or is it a smaller bolt thru the metal? One thing that puzzles me is why it was taken off to begin with. Check for stress cracks below.

Good luck

I'd install a ply backing pad, (or starboard).

first pre-fit it ,
then remove and glass the bejesus out of the ply,
seal the thru holes with 4200 when installing the teak ,
use fender washers on the ply side to prevent compression.

Thats one heck of a chunk of lumber.

Re: Attaching teak pulpit to bow MORE PICS

Thanks for the replies everyone.. I didn't even think about a plate on the inside bow/cuddy area. Certainly makes more sense. Yes, the holes line up in pulpit and bow.
I'll look through the storage container that came with the boat for the plate. Previous owner claims they were re-doing the teak and that's why they took it off. Looks pretty solid. See additional pics.

JonesG, what is this "4200" you referenced. Silicone?

Thanks again everyone..

That bracket in front of the hook is an anchor lock. The pin comes out and the anchor chain is held tight to it by that pin.

4200 is a type of marine sealant. It's not silicone, but similar.

Google 3M 4200 or 3M 5200 and you'll see what it is. Good stuff for sure!!!
