Re: Boat I bought to restore

Sorry for the delay everybody, it's great to have the boat in the water...I am headed down there in a couple hours since I took the day off to go and spend some time on the new boat. I will get a bunch of pics and a video and post hopefully later tonight..

Later!

Hey Rob. You're truly an inspiration. I can't wait to see more pics. I'm looking to replace the cloth liner in my 99 Maxum 2800SCR. I would rather to this myself. I want to replace with mold resistant vinyl. Any tips you can offer would be greatly appreciated. I've not done any upholstery work before but I'm pretty good with my hands and pay attention to detal. Thanks and get those pics up soon!

Well, those are all the pics from Friday. We took the boat out today and it ran great, the power steering started acting up but I think it was a problem with the high pressure line.

You know, I was just looking at my hull liner fabric today and was thinking the only thing I would have done differently is that I would stitch the sections together before gluing them up to the ceiling. I just tried to butt the seams together but I am not happy with the results. I think I am going to make so hiding welt for it out of beige fabric and staple it up with my upholstery stapler. To install the fabric, I sprayed the ceiling with contact adhesive, then sprayed the back of the fabric, then stuck it up. It came out pretty good and that is how I think the factories glue it up.
I did it by myself, and it took some wrestling but it wasn't too hard.

Good luck!

Beautiful resto what's that larson website they were talking about in the first few posts?Doing a 1985 19' delta cuddy info appreciated.

The larson website was the Larson corporate website www.larsonboats.com
They have an archives section under the My Larson section.

It's really helpful. A blast from the past, grady white has a section just like it as well. It's great looking at the old boats all brand new

Hi Rob. On the cabinetry. Did you remove the old laminate then apply new or did you apply the new cherry laminate over the existing?

Re: Boat I bought to restore

Just go over the old laminate with a belt sander with a 50 to 60 grit belt. After doing that you should be fine laminating over it. The old stuff has to be in good shape...no peeling. If there are holes you can fill those with bond-o.

Just use your judgment.

Re: Boat I bought to restore

Thanks for the compliments everyone! P.S. Bassfisher, the boat did take longer than 6 months, but I was just lazy about posting my early progress. The boat runs great, I try and go down there every week and take it out, and it has been a great time. I'm actually taking it out tomorrow if I can get off work early enough and the thunderstorms don't come in like they say...

The only problems I have had are a blown power steering fitting but I fixed that and no more problems.

Hey Vegas! yeah washing is a pain, and I admit I have only done it a few times this season, but we have had a lot of rain!

Everyone's projects look great and hope they are going well!

I have actually been spending a fair amount of time trying to iron out some electrical gremlins in my fishing boat's 1974 evinrude outboard. I think I got it though and am going to try and get out fishing this weekend.
