Would appreciate any help, I have 1950 hiawatha, and have read that the lower gear case required a grease not gear lube, is that correct? model 940mi-257972a, serial 297550.
Thanks

Some of the earlier motors used grease, such as Lubriplate. I'm pretty certain though, you can use a modern gear lube. Best to let a Hiawatha expert chime in, however.

That is correct. Most people use Lubriplate 105 "Motor Assembly Grease", comes in a squeeze tube and is available at NAPA Auto Parts stores and elsewhere.

Thanks for the responses and fast too. I will try the Lubriplate, I had gear lube in there but I don't think the seals were just right, it seemed to seep.

That's why it requires grease. Even when it was brand new, the seals were not good enough to hold oil. Truth is, they didn't hold grease all that well either.

I give him the benefit of the doubt. He might not speak English and is doing the best he can.

Yes, but his other 2 posts were kind of strange, with perfect English cut into the same "bookends"
