Soooooo.......Against my better judgment I went and looked at a free boat I saw on craigslist. Ya'll know how it is, freebie on craigslist, can't be much. Drove out to the guy's place this afternoon and soon found out that the boat was a 1992 Euroline 195 with a 150hp Force outboard sitting on a really nice shoreland'r trailer. Made up my mind it was going home with me before I even talked to the owner. Way I see it, the trailer will go nice under my Starcraft should I decide to scrap the boat.

Did a few core samples on the transom and all looks good, one of the benefits of living in Wyoming is dry weather. Haven't had a chance tonight to hook up the muffs to see if it will fire but PO said it does run. Will need new seats and a riight side windshield (boat was sitting in a horse pasture and the dang horses have chewed up most of the interiot and broke the windshield)

Do you think the Johnson 85hp V-4 off my Starcraft will push this boat? Just asking in case the 150 Force turn out to be a junker.

Anyway here she is in all her glory or lack there of:)

WOW - Nice score. It don't get any better than free. You did well! Other than the obvious neglect, it's not a bad looking boat. Even if you just choose to part it out you should do pretty good.

I would guess that a Johnnyrude '85 should be able to push that boat at a reasonable clip. Probably a little underpowered and it won't break any speed records, but with the right prop it should movie it around OK.

Got the 150 Force to start on muffs this morning but it sounded terrible. Backfiring, shacking, sputtering etc. Pulled the plugs and everything looked fine until I shined a light into the number 3 plug hole. The top of the piston didn't look right so I pulled the head and this is what I found......

Number 3 Piston Looks like it was detonating really bad::(

I don't think I will sink any funds into this motor since the reeds are more than trashed as well. So this outboard is destine to be parted out and sold on ebay.

Re: 1992 Euroline 195 (my next project)

Good Evening All,
I have decided to move forward and make this boat ready for next years boating season. I will be selling off my 78 Starcraft SS to finance the rebuild. After investigating further the boat will, hopefully, just need the new piston, carpet, and upholstery. I plan to do it all, even the upholstery (wife is going to teach me to sew):eek:that screws to the sides just under the gunwales.

I am going to illuminate the bass boat type seat in the bow and the stern since we mainly troll for walleye and that type seat will not be needed. My question is; does anyone have a recommendation on how to plug the hole in the decks left by the seat past base. Both the bow and stern seat post base holes will be covered up by marine carpet and unseen, so a good looking fiberglass repair is not needed. It would only need to be water tight and solid when walked on.

Pictures of the bow seat post hole I want to fill.

Looks like a good project- It was a great deal- If only for the trailer!

I'd assume that the hole is in a plywood deck?? You could grind a taper around the hole, then lay a patch into it with fiberglass. A couple good layers of 'glass and you'd never know that there was ever a hole there. Or, you could cut a square out that includes the hole, taper the edge, drop in a 'patch' of plywood (edges of that tapered, too), and glass it all together.

Get a hardwood dowel the same size and coat it with resin, then drive it in to the hole. Small patch of glass over that and you're done!

The dowel idea got me to thinking about routing a 1/4' to 1/2'' rabbit around the hole in the deck and starting with a larger dowel and turning it down on the wood lath the match the rabbit groove. Would then fit together like a puzzle piece. Add some sealer before driving it in and then add epoxy to the very top. I'm thinking it would be waterproof and very sturdy. Sand the surface smooth before adding the new marine carpet so as not to have a hump there to trip on.

Am I over thinking this:)

If we thought you were over thinking this, we'd buy new boats instead of fixing used and old boats!

Sounds like a plan to me! Rabbit, lathe, epoxy, plug, sand, more epoxy and done!

All outside work on the boat has come to an abrupt end.....-8 degrees and snow. However, I have been puttering around with the upolstry a bit and did get a few trim pieces started.

The original teak is in really bad shape so I decided to make new ones out of black walnut. Each walnut pieces will be coated in poly or an automotive clear coat for years of use and good looks.

Making use of my woodworking skills to build the trim pieces

The pieces set into the padded upolstry sides...kind like a seatback. I will be sewing up the new vinyl this winter and will post up my progress and pictures as I go.

Very nice find! Can't get any better than free!
I look forward to seeing your progress.....I have never owned a Force but I have heard that parts are hard to find so I wouldn't get too bent out of shape on parting it out. You will probably make a good bit just parting it out like you said. So are you for sure going to use your 85 HP on it or look for another??
Good luck on everything!

Finished up the wood upolstry inserts. Ended up using a clear epoxy automotive coating on them. I was afraid that poly wouldn't hold up to the sun and would start to flake off.

I think they will look very good against a light gray vinyl.

Re: 1992 Euroline 195 (my next project)

I have moved on to the cowl. The clearcoat seems to be releasing from sitting out in the sun for too many years. Kinda looks like the bad clear coat they put on cars and trucks in the late 80' and early 90's. I tried to buff off the haze near the top of the cowl in the picture.

Question: Has anyone sanded off clear coat without getting into the base color coat? I would like to remove all the clear coat and leave the base coat since it looks to be in good shape. Very nice sand paper like 600, 800, or 1000 grit??

any other thoughts?
