I have a 1996 volvo penta 5.0FI marine engine. The problem is i replaced my injectors due to only 2 of them were working test ran everything was good i put it on the trailer drove about 45 minutes to launch at my house put it in the water and suddenly the engine is running literally on 2 cylinders. Checked injectors all firing. Checked for spark good all around checked compression all within specs. checked fuel preassure perfect so what is going on with my engine? Thanks Ed
Please Help me

The normal cause for injector failure in boats is water in the fuel. Did you clean the rest of the system to make sure there was no water or dirt in the lines, fuel rails, VST tank, pumps etc.? Did you change the fuel filter, how about the tank, if there was water in the fuel filter, was the tank cleaned?

Yes everything was done with cleaning the entire fuel system. also tried running it on a remote fuel tank to be certain. I even thought it may have jumped timing pulled motor out and timing marks were perfect.

Best thing you could do is head up to the Adults only sticky at the top of this forum, Find the Volvo info and download the oem service manual for your engine. Get the full model number and be sure to get the right one, don't go by year, that only goes for the boat, not the engine.

Thanks for the help... I have a factory service manual and it still doesn't help explain this problem... I was hoping to see if someone had a similar problem that would have some insite

Why would you pull your engine to check if your timing jumped? There are simple diagnostic checks to do that. I'd find a marine tech or a GM auto tech who are familiar with small block v-8 GM engines to troubleshoot it for you. Most electronic fuel injection related problems are 99% of the time something very simple from my 20 years experience as an auto tech.

yes it is a ford...LOL also pulled engine because if you have spark fuel and compression motor should run and run well when timing is right... Now also with a ford engine they have been known to jump timing... So when you have spark to each spark plug and the engine is only running on 2 cylinders then you would think timing is off... So you go back to the basics and check timing ok so now that i re checked timing and its on spec why is the motor not running correctly???? Maybe its a bad computer? But you would think that it would pull a code... Yes the engine did pull a code 1st was idle was too low, and the 2nd was high rpm too low. Well these codes are obvious when... It's only running on 2 cylinders! So the mystery remains, why is the engine not running properly?

Fuel or electrical. You need to do the tests in the diagnostic manual in. You may have good fuel pump pressure, but try an injector balance test too. Just getting power to them and hearing them click doesn't mean they are actually doing anything.
