1999 Yamaha L200TXRX Oil Problem

I have twin 200 Yamahas (carb. salt water series). The R engine oil tank does not fill to the full line, and eventually I get all the alarms, reduced RPMs, etc., when the oil reaches the bottom line on the tank. But using the manual switch does pump oil in to the tank. I have tried to solve this problem without success. On the R remote tank: I changed the filter, the sensor, and the pump. Problem not fixed. I then changed the sensor on the R engine tank (all new parts). Problem not fixed. Then I emptied the L & R engine oil tanks, and swapped the oil sensors knowing the L engine system was working fine. I turned the keys on for both engines, and the L engine tank was pumped to full, while the R engine tank stopped midway between the full and low marks/lines. I then used the switch to manually pump the R tank to full, and then drove the boat. I found the oil in the R engine tank was still not getting pumped to the R engine tank when the oil level went below the full mark. Manual pumping still works. Any help would be most appreciated.

Re: 1999 Yamaha L200TXRX Oil Problem

Thanks for the quick response.

I bought a new harness too, and tried it without the engines running, and saw no difference. The suggested thread was very good. I too am guilty of taking the cap off the engine tank to fill the tank with oil so we can get going again to get back to the mainland. I always made sure the orientation was correct and the seal was in place on the bottom. However, the seals on both tanks for both engines did not look good.

I now will:

1. remove the remote tanks and clean them, and again replace the filters there. Can I use gasoline to clean the remote and engine tanks? I did see a small amount of a milky solution at the bottom of each tank.
2. remove the engine tanks and clean them, and replace the seals at the bottom of the tanks.
3. actually run the R engine with the new harness wire from the remote tank to the ECU. (I also swapped the ECUs to see if that was the problem)

That may take a while, but I will let you know.

Thanks again.

I'm sure if you do a search for YAMAHA OIL TANK you will find a lot of posts telling how to check the system out

Here is a link to an article about it:

Some models used the tilt sender to determine if the motor was up or down, so it would not fill when tilted. Check that out if your trim gauge is not working.
