i just signed up and got approved for a school loan. so marine mechanics here i come. so you know what this means, it means that by next spring ill be the go to guy on iboats. lol!! actually what it means is maybe ill finally have a motor that will run?? to top it off maybe even a career! i just wanted to thank the people of iboats for motivating my 28 yr. old *ss to proceed in something. so thanks guys and happy boating!! got the grant, loan and all other necessary things including the school is even going to spot me the $2000.00 worth of tools. "thank god" so off to school i go!! i remember when i was too cool for school. lol! does anyone know anything about the harbors in philly?? what are the chances on working there?? thanks guys and wish me "luck". thanks tashasdaddy for your input!! "justjason" I'm confused about the mickey mouse thing, but anyway it's the Automotive Training Center "ATC" that i will be attending. not only is it the only east coast (marine) institute that i know of, but it's also (needless to say) the only one that i can attend without moving cross country. the tools are just the tools that you need to get threw school, not my retirement package. i do know that I'm 28 years old but I'm still just getting started!! this is my chance to make a diff. in my long line of half a**ed family do it yourselfers. i could have gone to a long list of schools for automotive training, but i was thinking about the competition in the automotive world. id rather do something that i would be needed for not something that i could just simply do for less then the other guy.

MMI, aka, Marine Mechanics Institute, aka The Mickey Mouse Instittue.
I don't see how ATC automotive will help you much with boat engines. Once you get through the basic mechanical similarities of GM blocks what you need to learn are "systems". Starting system, fuel systems, ingition systems is a biggie, cooling systems etc... They are not the same as automotive systems. Very different.

dude..ATI has a complete marine class, it has nothing to do with cars. this is a marine education. they specialize in Honda and most importantly mercury. mercury is the sponsor of the marine "branch of the school. i don't know how to list the things that i will need to know, like you, but i do know that when i went on there little tour, i was impressed.
the only reason i am going to the second rated school (ATI) and not the first rated school ("mickey mouse institute") is so i do not have to move to Florida or california. that is only because i still (for some reason) have some hope that my sons mother will straighten her self up a little son he can see his mom. even know that will never happen it doesn't hurt to hope!! TOOCAN

thank you gregg that is the school and the course. i don't think the school wanted to change their name because they added another course.
