As I have looked for info on my new(to me) 1992 boat I can't find a 1992 Volvo Penta setup with a GM 430-2 barrel carb. that is rated at 190hp. I don't know if engine was upgraded or what but according to all the Volvo charts I can find they did not make a 190hp engine unless it was a 4 barrel carb, in 1992. Don't know if I have been had on this deal or what. Anybody have any ideas? What with a few other problems with boat, it makes me think I may have been sucker bait on this trip. Boat will eventually be jam-up but it will take more work than first thought. Starting with new engine, already put down and glassed in 3/4 treated plywood as the seats were not secured due to some deck problems. Thanks in advance, love this forum it has already been very useful for me!!!!!!

Also does anyone know of the INFINTY line of boats. I have not been able to find anything on my 22ft cuddy by Infinty.

Is what you are calling a 430 actually a 4.3 GM? I think so and yes mine is a 4.3 and it's 185 HP. The other option was a 4.3 4 BBL Carb and I think it was 190 or 195 HP. I would have to look in my Owners Manual to be sure.

There are other differences other than carb. The 432 and 434 engines had the Delco EST distributors, the 432 was a 2bbl and the 434 was a 4bbl.

Post the engines Volvo serial number, then we can find out EXACTLY what you have.

You state that you need a new engine. If this is true, then most of the details about what you HAVE are irrelevent. We should probably be talking about what you need/want in a replacement engine.

A marine built pre-vortec 4.3 will put 155-160hp to the prop with a 2bbl carb, 175-180hp to the prop with a 4bbl carb. A vortec 4.3 add approximately 30-35hp to the above figures.

Not exactly irrelevent. If he chooses to go the long block route, he needs to get the same vintage block so the accessories all fit. Without knowing what he has for sure, makes it impossible to tell him what will replace it.

Re: confused newbie, GM 430-190HP

Could not read numbers on carb cover from Volvo and have not been able to find a plate on the engine. Have found cast in numbers on intake and block but have not checked them yet. Hopefully Rapido can match engine once they pull it. Have lots of vibration and noise it was not making before it blow the oil out the other day(see other post). May have run hot, temp gauge just does move and not sure the alarm sensor is working. Am going to pull them out and place in boiling water while hooked up and see if they are good or not.
Took boat out yesterday and it ran better after a quart of Resolone and Lucas oil treatment. Still have lots of pressure in crankcase after abt hour of running time. Leads me to believe that after temp gets stable across entire engine that rings are not sealing good or valves stems blowing by. First time engine was ran over an our was when it messed up Sat.
Will never be able to trust this engine. Termostat may have been removed, which would explain temp gauge, so problems would not show up when test running boat. Think sellsman's name was Ben Dover. Wife wanted a fixer-upper and looks like that's what we got besides sore spot to the stern area. thanks for info.
