Who's got the worst job?

Usually, the job's not too bad. Yes there are days when you can't imagine the boss getting more anal and annoying than normal, and there are days I'm freezing my butt off installing security on a fenced compound in RR NoWhere. But lately, I've got a chart topper. I'm installing explosion proof cameras (methane)in the underground sewer stations in the neighboring city. Yes, it is what you imagine. Perched on a ladder on top of a steel grate floor, 20 feet underground, with you know what flowing underneath. You don't want to drop a tool. Even if you did get it back, you wouldn't want to touch it. It makes the unemployment line look like a vacation. Thank God I'll finish the last site tomorrow. Three weeks of this is four weeks too many. No one has a crappier job than this (I think), but maybe a worse one. Let's hear about it.

Gee, I'm a public servant who sits in a warm, quiet office all day. Maybe that's worse? Probably in some ways.

I'm in lakelover's camp these days, civil servant in an office. I did spend 12 years fixing B-52s outside year round in upstate New York winters. Spent a few evenings changing parts with my face 2 inches from the urinal catch pan.

Dropped a few wrenches working on those planes till I learned to tie the tool to my shirt's button holes.

Yep, mine got me jumping thru flaming hoops like circuit animals is way better then that gig. I ain't complaining no more. Gives new meaning to no smoking.

I can possibly equal it.

I used to work as a line guy at the local airport. One of my jobs was the flush the lav on small airliners. Well, one time I went to hook up the hose and it didn't catch and the lav dumped all over me, and I got wet, used toilet paper and blue water with **** and ***t covering my arms and feet. Not to mention it was about 35 degrees that night.

So yea, you ain't the only one. And do that for 7.75 an hour.

Years ago, during my stint as a Field Engineer for a scientific instrument company I visited all sorts of research facilities.

One was at Duke University where the systems under my care were located behind the monkey room. Rhesus (sp?) monkeys are very aggressive and smell worse than any critter you can imagine. A bit worse than rotting flesh.

I had to go through the monkey room to get to the counter room. The "keeper" always went ahead of me, both of us under what looked like a giant poncho. The monkeys screeched at us and some even threw their feces at him.

I would rather wade in a sewer than go into that monkey room without the cover.

The monkey keeper gets my vote.

I'm am a xerox tech. I drive 200 miles a day in heavy traffic in Miami, Ft.Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. I deal with some of the absolutely dumbest people in America. Some of these people shouldn't be allowed to wear shoes they have to tie, let alone drive a car. I would rather be in a sewer, installing cameras, in freezing weather than ever have to walk into a office again to fix a copier. You try dealing with the public on a daily basis and then try to figure out why you have a drinking problem. Doctors, layers, and teachers are the most incompetent of all people.

Speaking of crappy jobs-----

Just got a call from my maintenance man, one of our units just reported a lot of water in the basement... Clogged lateral, pool of you know what around the floor drain. He slogged around in it a while, cold not get it clear.

Called my regular sewer guy- he will be there in the AM. Nothing like wading through that pool just to get to work. He gets my vote tonight! We have a bet on tampons at 75 feet out.....

I think Mike Rowe of dirty jobs would take his hat off to that one, in fact i think he's already aired a job in the NY sewer system, cockroaches and rats everywhere, getting in his pants falling down his neck ect., what a nasty environment.

5 years ago there was a fire in a water treatment plant in Houston. My job was to remove all the burnt fiberglass pipes and vessels and replace them. All the damaged equipment had burnt poo in it. The feces stench was so strong that it would stick to your clothes. I would come home and stink like crap, literally. The smell eventually stuck in my truck also just from me sitting in it to get home. The project took six months to complete.

The GOOD part of my job is fixing alarm systems for doctors, lawyers, teachers etc. (sewers are a diversion) I prefer Crown Royal. I don't consider it a problem.

when it comes to copiers its a shame that doctors are the cheapest, lawyers are always looking to scam, and teachers are usually the dimmest light in the closet. i prefer wild turkey and its not a problem, its a hobby. i think its amazing what school teachers do with a copier. they have used copiers all their career and they still seem to be of the lowest intelligence of any other profession. if anyone is a teacher i am sorry but 9 times out of ten teachers do the strangest things. like put paper in the tray with the wrapper still on then callfor jamming in the machine.

Have a good job here now. I can't beat working in a sewer. Although when the sewage came into my other house, I did get to see submarines my neighbors were making come into my basement from over the seat of my toilet for a couple days. The hazardous waste crew that cleaned after I got it plugged and pumped out said they had never seen worse. I am just glad I didn't fall in it.​

I have it pretty tough some days myself though. I work for one of the largest window mfg in North America as Field Technical Advisor for multi-family and hurricane impact rated products. -in a few days I have to fly into CoCoa Beach, Fla. to inspect an apt complex where they ( property mgr " I used to be married to a lawyer")claim children are falling out of windows because the screens are not correct -despite a warning lable on each screen stating that they will not keep kids from falling out.

I sent my boss a photo of 2 girls in bikinis on the beach saying " well, If I gotta go!"
