Re: Hood release cable came off

K, I know I should have taken pictures of what I did, but at the time I just wanted the damn thing open, which I did get open!
My grill, luckily is a plastic grill, which bends (with the help of a long screwdriver). There were 2 screws in the middle of the grill which I took out, so at that point I was able to pry the grill down enough to get my hand inside and feel for the latch.
But what I realized is that my cousin has a Chevy S-10 Blazer, so I took a look at his latch mechanism which is bolted under the hood. It is bolted in with 2 bolts. So I took a deep socket and undid the bolts which held the hood latch. While I was loosening the bolts, the hood came up enough so I could just pull the latch cable and the hood came open.
Basically, I got lucky. Without a plastic grill, I would have had to cut the grill and go buy another one or try to fix it (and I don't think that would have worked).
So after getting the hood open and looking at the broken cable, we tested it(the latch that is) and it seemed fine. So we close the hood and BAM, can't get it open again. I had to loosen the bolts again to get the hood open!
Last year I took the hood off of the truck and I never scribed around the hood where it gets bolted to the arm, so I bet the hood is not set back in the exact place. But at least I got it open and now I"m going to go buy hood pins to keep the hood in place. I might just get rid of the spring/latch assembly....it might be easier that way.
Thanks for all the input fellas! Much appreciated!

I'm

You got it open, looked at the latch and then closed the hood without fixing the broken cable. And now you are going to put "hood pins" in.

Wouldn't it be a whole lot easier to just replace the broken cable and adjust the hood and clean/lube the latch so everything works like it's supposed to?

Deck Swabber:
No, when we got the hood opened, we saw the cable end, which is a small round plastic piece, which has a recessed piece that snaps into the bracket, holding the black plastic cable. Well, the black end part (with the recessed area) broke away from the black cable, but when we put it all back together and tried the hood release, it worked. At least it seemed like it worked.....that's why we closed the hood.

And of course it would have been easier to replace the cable and adjust the hood....I plan on doing that this weekend.....we ran out of daylight that day.

Besides, the hood pins are going on....I like the way they look.
