I've got a nitro bass boat and the trailer has some slight rust on it and needs to be repainted really... Can someone walk me through what to exactly do to go about repainting this trailer the proper way, what primer and paint to use, etc.. Also do I have to take the boat off or can I just cover it really good and leave it on?

It's best if you can do it with the boat off. I stripped mine with an angle grinder with a twisted wire wheel on it, regular wire wheel if you want a little less aggressive. I primed with Rustoleum clean metal primer and top coated with Rustoleum. Came out great.

Really all depends on how much rust needs to be addressed. Pictures would help quite a bit if you could post a few. Or describe where and how much attention your trailer needs.

I would say it has moderate rust... It's a 2000 model so it's not real bad!! Just has some paint peeling off and the areas that peeled off is rusting.. I'll try to post some photos Sunday..

Look into a paint called Hammerite--you may have to buy it on-line. Here in Florida i coat all metals with it. I would grind rust off but hammerite is designed to go right over rust. I use my bay boat once per month--i coated my springs when i purchased the trailer new---no rust for 5 years. I replaced my springs 2 months ago-- 8 years old and for the 1st time ever i reused the u-bolts--thanks to Hammerite. On my 20' project boat, i primed & recoated the entire galvanized trailer with Hammerite products.

The stuff is awesome---$15 qt, $ 55 gal +/- many colors available

good luck
