Re: Testing this weekend

That will not help, and may make the problem worse, because the exhaust housing fills with water to the point of the relief holes and will fill more with extensions, creating even greater back pressure.

thanks Ezeke

straight answer was what i wanted

Re: Testing this weekend

also if i was to change the height of the motor on the transom then take it on our weekend away would this spoil our weekend?

what i mean would the changes of moving the motor up 1-2 inchs spoil the performance so much i could tow the kids about?

thanks

Re: Testing this weekend

Tim, a stern view picture of the boat on the trailer with the motor trimmed down until the anti-ventilation plate is as close to parallel with the bottom of the hull as possible would be helpful. For your consideration when raising the motor, the AVP should ride above the water at planning speeds BUT not cause ventilation particularly in turns. Most people start at about one inch above the bottom but adjustments up or down may be needed to optimize the performance. Since you are trying to solve a different problem maybe you can live with one of the negative effects. Bill

That set up looks pretty good from where I'm sittin'. Nice rare TnT unit you got there. Don't ever let that hit the dumpster, it's worth $400 by itself.

I think your boat is sitting way too low in the water (judging by the water line). Saturated floatation foam perhaps?

Re: Testing this weekend

Sooooooooooooo your boat is almost sinking when not underway? Am I seeing this right?

Couldn't you just trim the engine up a tad to get the holes above the water line?

Dienewk where are you located?

Wagga mate and you

Sinking ??? no but the motor is sitting low in the waterand when i power on an the bow stand up it is causing these relief holes to go under water and the boat dies.

Thanks for the pictures. I think you should raise the motor one hole and see what happens. Trial and error may be more effective than speculation. However, be careful not to kink the steering cable while raising/remounting the motor. Good luck!

Yeh, stern sits way too low in the water, how many batteries and fuel tanks are stored against the stern?
if none then the hull is water logged, wet foam etc.

Fiddling with the motor is a stop-gap, its not the root of the problem.
If you can live with that, then fair dinkum.

Do a search on here for "core sample". Older boats have expanded foam under the deck that over the years can absorb water and add a couple hundred pounds.

There are meters made to measure water entrained in a hull ... they are expensive and usually owned by boat surveyors. It requires drilling test holes to test the core for water.

Re: Testing this weekend

Hi all, i have noticed a lot of post finish on the forums with no closing post.

so this is mine, i thank everyone for there help over the few months i have nutted this out.

I took the boat away for a 5 day weekend with the family and friends and have just returned. Before i left i raised the motor on the boat about 1 3/4 inchs, shifted spare fuel to the front of the hull and added a drum of water to the hull as well.
Got the boat on the water and started as per instruction in above posts, warm up bar all the way up and choke on, she fired and ran sweet, now for the test lets drive it.......

BLoody awesome she goes like a rocket but the real test is add a skier or some tubes.......................... yyyeeeee hhhaaaaaa lol was great ran like a dream and a awesome weekend was had by all.

the verdict::::

the last mechanic i called told me that the exhaust ports would be under water causing it to stall, he was correct, i evened out the boat wieght and raised the motor as well as keeping excess passangers out, hence lifting the ports from the water making the boat go like a rocket, when ever someone. larger, went to the stern of the boat for extended time the boat would stall, so if the exhaust ports are covered with water then the boat is a dog

Fix::::

as said. asjusted motor height and played with ballast and dont cart extra weight and the little 115hp 14ft hull is a awesome machine for time on the water with the family.

Again thanks to those that shared there knowlege and time with me

Tim
