Hey I was wondering how i should proceed . i have the engine on a stand in the garage for the winter. I took off the exhaust manifold and proceeded to empty all the water from the block from the block petcock. Well I realized i have a really bad looking water pump and decided that i would purchase an new one so I pulled the circulating pump off and I got to see cylinder 1 staring me in the face and right below the circulating pump hole is the water line. Well I thought i got the water out but obviosly not all of it. Im alittle concerned and would like some advice as to how to proceed ill be &^^*& to be caught with a cracked block from freezingg. How should i proceed. How come all the water didnt drain is that normal -I did get good flow when draing and most of the water came out.
Any advice out there?

You will never drain every drop of water out of a block. What you do is drain it so there is no pockets of water big enough to cause any damage. A few little puddle of water can NOT expand and break a cast iron block.

Thanks don im going to have to measure how deep the water line is and go from there. Ill keep your experienced advise in mind. Like i said the water line is right below the circulating pumps 6 o'clock position. Ill check tomorrow.
It sounds like you think im good to leave well enough alone.
Thanks DonS

Did you make sure the block drain hole was open? stick a wire in there and make sure it wasn't clocked with scale, rust, sand, muck, etc?

But,...
It's on a Stand,... Roll it to the Drain side,... It'll drain whatevers left...
