wow. i sure am glad i'm not the only one suffering here. i picked up my boat in october and have actually been fortunate enough to put it in the water 4 times since then. unfortunately, all 4 times have been an effort to get the motor running right. well that goal has been achieved and now its even too cold to run it here it mississippi! we had snow last weekend for cryin' out loud! i keep dreaming of having a new house with a great big shop in the back yard where i can go mess with it. but for now, it will have to sit under the cover beside our small storage building. *sighs*

Whew ... glad to hear I'm not the only one with a "shrine" where I stack all my new parts and goodies :D. I even pulled the outdrive so I could repaint it before spring. Bad part is , I just bought a used car and the place I bought it from uses a local marine/automotive mechanic shop. I took the car there and it was like an alcoholic entering a bar - looking, touching, and dreaming. Luckily the cold snap here jolted me back to reality!

Costco will start putting summer stuff on the shelves starting in January-Febuary.

May have to get a few little things just to feed the fix.

I have a feeling that if I did the Tiger thing I would be hard pressed to get any media attention. My wife would divorce me and what if she got the boat?...risky, waaay too risky!

I hope this doesn't start happening to me. I just winterized a couple of days ago and can still pull my bass boat (2stroker) out if the itch gets too bad.

I go up to my boat and make engine sounds. I haven't even had a chance to hear the new exhaust headers.

Hey Paul...

We'll have to have a group therapy session... I can come over and you can show me your new baby. You can even make vroom vroom noises... I'll understand.

Yup it's a bit brisk out there right now.... I think it was -29 oC this AM. Yes, it'll be a long winter... But it gets worse... Then there's the spring when the river is taunting you with its open water, but the boat launches are all closed, and there are tons of branches & debris from the high spring water anyway.... those weeks go the slowest.

Don't worry... when you do get it out on the lake and the family is doing the tubing, and you're bobbin' along with kids having fun, it'll be way better than you can imagine it!!

My boat won't fit in my building but i'm glad i have heat,AC,TV and a fridge!
It really helps during the winter and i can stay out there all day just tinkering with stuff and looking at the boat out the door or the motorcycle in the building.
The motorcycle got a full service and wax job, polished the wheels with the power ball, changed the brake and clutch fluids so it is done for the winter,
I do have some cool LED lights to add under the frame to light up all the chrome.....later project.

I think this weekend the power head off the Johnson 175 will come in and on the bench.
I have to have a Winter project! I have an old jet ski i may tear apart this winter too...:)

Thanks BF...there's hope....

Hey I was wondering about the spring. Been on the Assiniboine with a canoe waay too early in the season for a 'safe' paddle.

I was thinking I would do my first launch in a lake rather than a river in case something doesn't run right and I'm not fighting a current. Our cabin is 2.5 hours away, to far for just a 'test run'.

Any suggestions of a small lake close to Winnipeg?

Ok Paul, I know its rough to wait but how about killing some time by trying to convince your local sports and recreation department to let you launch in an indoor pool???? Trust me, I have thought about that one for a long time after seeing a show on indoor pool kayak training.

BTW- I passed some quasi- boating time yesterday evening by putting chains on a lawnmower , packing a path around the yard and then going tubing in the yard. The neighborhood kids had a great time as well. Winter Tubing:D

Norris Lake is a small lake just about 10 min past Teulon (towards the snake pits)... Depending on the year you could splash the boat and see lots of slithery little friends.... We usually stop there for a picnic after the snake thing. I've never put a boat in there, but there has been the odd boat on the water when we've done the wiener roast thing... usually around Mother's day. I'm not sure, but I'd guess the lake would be clear a week or two before that. I'm not sure of anything that would be close/good and more south....

In case others are curious.. here's a link about the Narcisse Snake Pits... lots and lots of garter snakes mating in the spring (no venomous snakes around here - at least none to speak of)... it's a fun family thing... kids can pick up the snakes etc It's a self-guided walking tour thing, but on weekends they have DNR officers there that will give informal talks to visitors.

Thats a cool link BF!

No way down here in the south could you do that.
Most of our snakes are Copperhead,Cotton Mouth and rattle snakes along with a few others that will put a hurting on you.
I do see a tree snake once in a while. Those we can handle.

I hear you... once we had a visitor from Australia who was completely freaked out by the kids running around and playing in long grass along some bush in shorts/runners... said there was no way anyone would go near terrain like that without snake boots down under. Despite our reassurances that it was OK, their comfort level remained low. :)

You know, I've never been!? Every year we talk about going, but for whatever reason the trip doesn't materialize. Now with young son...and a small lake with the potential to launch...we might make it.

That tidbit has me thinking though....I'll start a new thread on amazing little known around our continent.

You guys are wimps. :D Real boaters boat year round. We're doing the Mission Bay Christmas Parade of Lights this weekend. Went halibut fishing last weekend. Probably go to Catalina the 27-29th. So what if you have to use tire chains on the launch ramp and chop ice to launch. Man up!

LOL! While the neighbors tell their kids.... "Look, I don't THINK he's dangerous, but... just stay away from that house, okay?"

Re: Give it to me straight...how bad is it?

Good stuff,

I awoke to 17" of snow this morning! Yippee do! REALITY CHECK FOR BEAR! It's winter dude!

My current boat and my previous boat were purchased in the fall. So I feel the pain! Last year I went nuts and decided to re-something my boat... Resto-mod maybe? (link to project below) Now with this new boat, and the fact it doesn't fit in my garage, my modification sickness is halted. :D

So I rely on my fellow addicts on i-boats to help my insanity until spring! Thank the maker I got you folks!
