yeah I mentioned thos above.... my dad made his own from copper pipe they flattened and curved into a bracelet... a true believer in these things, and he just turned 66.... (or 65? oops)

..... a shot glass, with raisins and vodka? I think there's a definite placebo effect there! lol - I'm gonna start drinking half a case of beer and 4 tequila shots every night, and see if it helps ease my insomnia. I'll let ya all know how it turns out!

Re: magnetic bracelets

You do have this backwards. Drugs don't make it to market because they are proven no better than a placebo. In other words, they do not perform better than a sugar pill and cannot be considered effective.

uuuh, that's actually what I said. You are assuming that the sugar pill is NOT effective. In many circumstances, a sugar pill is very effective. You can have a case, for instance severe pain, where both a shot of morphine and a shot of saline are equally effective at reducing pain. That does not mean that the morphine is ineffective.

I would have thought the 1st place to go to was the Dr, just in case you have something 'wrong', like a growth or spur on a joint, or inflamation or something.
If the Dr finds zilch, then try anything you want.

Re: magnetic bracelets

Buddhists believe that the mind can control pain, even cure disease.

Buy the bracelets. If they make you feel better, then they work and are a great buy. If they don't make make you better, then they don't work and you got ripped off.

I'm 50 and luckily, probably in the best overall shape of my life. If I get sore from crawiling around on a 45 degree pitch roof, or a couple of hours on the business end of a shovel/sledghammer, then it's time for some Tylenol and a Keystone light.

Also, I watch ZERO TV. the is always something better to do.

Good luck.

Re: magnetic bracelets

I believe that any benefit from things like magnetic bracelets. . .and many other "therapies" that have no scientific (biochemical) explanation is entirely psychological.

That doesn't mean they are not effective or not real. It means that the benefits are in the patient, not the treatment.

Not picking sides here. But this comment makes me think of such medical practices like acupuncture and acupressure. You wouldn't think that they would do anything but proven for thousands of years.

You are better off going to see a witchdoctor. I can't believe people fall for this stuff.

I think the Witch Doctor is the better of the two.

Re: magnetic bracelets

Be careful if you have been wearing the magnetic bracelet for some time, and suddenly remove it. The trapped iron in your veins can dislodge and travel to you're brain and give you steel head.

Whatever floats your boat.:)
My only regret is not being the one who came up with and marketed the idea. :(

Re: magnetic bracelets

I've often wondered if the people who sell these trick people into using them through the examples above, where people wore them with no benefit and got some ailment after removing it.
They are magnets! The same stuff in that cash drawer or screw is in our blood, as well. I wonder if the ailments after removal are more by iron overdosing than anything. Having a clump-o-iron getting released into the blood all at once can't be healthy. Sure, it is a minuscule amount, but our bodies react badly over many other minuscule amounts of stuff.

I'm in the camp of "It does harm, not good". I've always been curious about them, though, as I've always found magnets to be almost mystical. Magnets are still truly untapped technology in my completely unjustified opinion.

I'm 42, teach full contact Karate and do a ton of other stuff that old men should not do.

Today I split wood almost all day long. The soreness and pain is just part of getting old. The only real cure is to exercise as much or more than you did when you were younger. If you did not - then you need to start very slow and work up. But work hard no matter what, work every day (once you can) and work out as heavy as you can. Cardiovascular work is almost as important (if you like to take lots of breaks in the hard work then so be it) if you want to continue to be able to perform for any length of time.

Those magnets wouldn't affect a computer, unless you opened it up, and opened the drive case maybe.
