I have the 703 control with the extra wires, and was thinking of an inexpensive Tach that I could just buy at an Auto Parts store. I've read a lot about the wiring hookup and it seems like this would be the setup>>(The gauges use the yellow(key on power), green(tach signal) and black wire(ground).). I have a 1991 Yamaha 50hp 2 stroke 3 cylinder, what kind of Tach would I ask for, seems like all they have is 4, 6 or 8 cylinder Tachs. Will they work???? or Not ???? I know about the Tiny Tack, had one on my Granddaughters Dune Buggy, worked alright, but would rather mount a small little inexpensive Tach in the console.

Re: Not a Yamaha Tach????

With all of the interference from the CDI units on these Yamaha out boards I hope the tiny tach will work for you.
Any 7k or 8k tach usually will work as the info I sent to you says and have settings for pulses, you just need to see if your motor is a 6 pole 3 pulse motor as my C40TLRX is. Your manual will give you that info.
According to the info I sent you The 6k tacks are usually for inboard and I/O motors and they have the settings for Cylinders
