All you have to do is get a parking ticket, pay it, and have some clerk biff the computer entry. Couple of years later you suddenly get pulled over, car confiscated, maybe walk, maybe go to jail, maybe get a ride home. Even though it's a typo not your fault, you have to take a day off from work and get it fixed, then pay to get your car out of impound.

Been there, done that.

Guilty until proven innocent. It's called administrative law.

sorry for you

Neither you nor we have any clue what the DMV wants or why.

Why not wait until you have talked to them before you start complaining??

Re: DMV screwing up my rifle purchase for son bday?? ahhh the drama..

ahhh the drama.....of course in CA all DMV offices closed on Fridays.....so I called the local PD to run my license(the officer was really cool, and wasnt supposed to), sure enough license was suspended since 2007!!!!! I got no notice of any kind...........Guess why???........
When my ex (first) perjured herself in court re: child support, I won case, yet she still fanagled a way to garnish my wages via CSS, took me 18 mos. to finally prove I was honest and correct, they sent ME a LOT of $ back as I was "in slight OVERAGE", CSS had to report me to the DMV.........also hosed my credit...after ONE call today, ALL will be cleared up within 7-10 days.....yippee!!!! Credit will show better and NO issues anymore!!
Damned if I know who's pocket the money that CSS paid me back came from, ex never got in ANY trouble, paid money back to me or CSS.....oh yeah, I know whos pockets it came out of, OURS!!! :)
P.S. technically my license is still "suspended" for 7-10 days...

Technincal error or not, you are still suspended and have notice of it now. Be careful. Here, getting caught would mostly likely end in a conviction. One of our local judges give a weekend to jail to anyone caught driving suspended if they have been notified

Wow, what a pain. Glad you got it figured out though and I hope the 7-10 days are police free. Here in WI you can look up the status of a licensed ( or not) driver online, even if is not you.

Funny thing how child support issues can mess with your other activities in life. Hope never to be there though.

Good luck with the purchase!

Scary how you ARE in fact guilty until YOU prove yourself innocent, honest, law abiding and correct............

Since when did California start doing checks for long guns? That is not a Federal requirement.

?2?
Current Federal Instant Check System. Since November 30, 1998, the Brady law has required all federally licensed firearms dealers to initiate background checks for all firearm purchases. Prior to any sale, the purchase must be approved through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), which is operated by the Federal Bureau of Inves*tigation (FBI). DOJ continues to be the NICS contact point for handgun checks, while the FBI handles NICS checks for long gun sales. Most sales are approved through the NICS within minutes. Dealers who fail to comply may be fined up to $5,000 and risk losing their license. Nationwide, about 3% of gun purchase applications are rejected.

Believe me, partner, you're guilty until proven innocent for a lot more than administrative issues.

Re: DMV screwing up my rifle purchase for son bday????

It took until yesterday for me to make sure CSS did their job.......whoever I spoke with "forgot" to clear me with DMV and the credit bureau, I had to call them AGAIN. So today again, I will call DMV to make sure my license is in good standing. Then call credit company and dispute the CSS case and they will , wipe that off my credit report...............
All this for doing NOTHING wrong.........
Damn scary..........

Re: DMV screwing up my rifle purchase for son bday????

years ago i was shopping in a store, came out, and a policeman approached me. ask if i were Bob? Yes, this your car? yes. your under arrest, for an outstanding warrant. asked what it was, he said a bench warrant.

a clerk made a mistake on a traffic ticket, the Judge issued a bench warrant. seeing i was retired, i decided not to make bail, spent 17 days in jail, before court date.

judge, said i'm sorry.

The great state of NC pulled some BS with me ten years after I moved out of state. Tried to get my license renewed, mind I had it renewed twice since then, & they put an alert on me. They suspended my license without my knowledge. A wad of cash later my name was good.
