The oil pump drive gear around the crankshaft is destroyed. I have been told that the motor will run ok without the plastic gear. I have also been told that there is a nylon disc dummy gear which is available to make the seal that the original gear provided.
Can someone please clarify. I will be rebuilding shortly.
Thanks.

Tha oiler gear has nothin' ta do with "sealing". It does have a little ta do with takin' up space in that clyinder. Other wise know as "stuffin'". Gets that clyinder (crankcase pressure) closer ta tha same pressure as tha rest. On a lake motor you will never know tha difference if ya just throw it (trashed gear)away. Just use a block off kit with tha stem on it and never look back........

The block off kit keeps the oil pump shaft end bushing busy so it doesn't fall into the motor.
