Hi guys + gals: New user - 1st post - A few years back I bought a small boat w/ a tired old Johnson 65 - traded / re-powered w/ rebuilt 70 from rebuilder - U know - bring them boat, they pull yours off + set aside 4 later rebuild, mount + rig rebuilt, down the road U go - never was sure what exactly I have - I KNOW they mixed / matched parts - sticker on transom mount says Model J60ELE8M / Serial G02528254 - again, it could have been/apparently was changed-cowl says Johnson 70-"NUMBER ON WELCH PLUG IS G2348838" - haven't been able to I.D. "G" #'s - MOST concerned / interested w/ # on welch plug as it's the one that's right on the engine + who knows what transom mount might have been used - (Block-334474, Head-329835-1,Ign. coils-582508 04BOCA, Powerpack- CD3SL267 583748 23FU-OA) - Anybody know how to I.D. based on "G" #'s / serial #'s? - I don't trust #'s on transom mount sticker - does dealer/shop have to crossover? - MUCH OBLIGED !!!

Re: Johnson Engine Identification

Ran good...when I last ran it - been "dry docked" - hence, need to I.D. to clean carbs, service water pump, lower unit grease, tune-up... - Update: there's plenty of info to I.D. based on model # / nothing found on serial #'s - apparently model # must be : J60ELE"S"M, opposed to J60ELE"8"M which would be a 1990 60 H.P. - why I said I KNOW parts have been mixed/matched is there's one odd / different carb on it - wondering what difference is between 60 + 70 H.P. models - ??? carburetion, jets, port timing???... - in other words, are 1990 60 + 70's the same "BASIC" powerheads w/ "minor", i.e. carburetion changes? MUCH OBLIGED !!!
