Went to Best Buy sat. for a computer monitor.

Found the one I wanted, on sale $119.00. The
only one on the shelf had been opened, returned,
reconditioned, etc., marked down $20.00. I questioned
an "associate" as to what I would actually be getting.
The answer was vague, then he produced another one
that was "new in the box". I quickly decided to pay the
extra $20.00 for the "virgin" monitor.

Got it home and realized the tape had already been slit.
And guess what?, their was no vga cable just a dvi. My
computer does not have dvi.

Today I went back and they pulled the vga cable out of the
discounted one I was debating about buying on sat.

I am so sick of this sh**. It doesn't matter where you go it's
the same everywhere. And don't even get me started on the
3 defective Kohler toilets from Lowe's. But I do have a copy
of the $250.00 check Kohler sent me for my pain and suffering
above my workbench:D

So frustrating and becoming a more common occurrence each time you make a purchase. Costs everything you save in gas returning things at times.

I hear ya... It seems like nobody (companies included) knows anything about customer service anymore! or maybe they just don't give a crap.

I can't stand it when I know more the the kid selling me the stuff, on anything outside my trade,I study it to death if I go into a big box store it is for my entertainment value and maybe if I find someone that actually knows what he or she is selling some more info, but for the most part I use folks that are just getting their business or hobby off the ground.I get treated good and I feel like I get more bang for my buck.

Re: Fun At The Big Box Store

Sometimes I have the best service in the worst areas.. it's odd.

On one end of the spectrum, my wife once got me a pack of ryobi batteries at our local HD and it was a returned package in which someone swapped the ones for crappy old ones (obviously old, not just old). Upon returning them, they simply said 'oh, it happens all the time'. WTH? Doesn't anyone ensure returned goods are resellable? This has happened a few times with various items, all at HD.

On the flip side, our HF is in a seriously crappy section of town, and we all know nobody there gets paid squat. Well, the other day I bought a benchtop mortiser (!!!) with a 20% off coupon. The guy at the counter asks if I want the 'extended warranty' (we all know about these), but this time I was tempted, because these things shake a bunch and I don't want to be stuck with a broken mortiser.. something I barely got the past the wife to begin with.. well after I decided to pass on the warranty, the guy said, "Don't worry, it's on us" and gave me a 1 year for free. This from a smallish company which is known for being as cheap as humanly possible. I had to carry my jaw out in the cart just so it wouldn't drag on the floor.

Lowes is also a company I have had wonderful service at. I recently returned 1/2 ton of concrete I ended up not using as well as a slew of brackets I didn't use. Some of the brackets I bought a full year ago and didn't have a receipt for any of it. I was honest and told them how some of it was several months old and they took it all back without issue. I had a gift card within minutes (~20 minutes, since it was a lot of stuff, lol)

So they aren't all bad. If I get bad service or find a store to be nazi-ish (you know the type), I simply find a sister store or competitor and shop there. Sometimes just one person in a great mood or very helpful will make me a loyal customer, no matter who the evil corporation is signing their paycheck. If that person leaves, gets fired or quits, they lose a customer. I tend to base my shopping decisions on personality, quality and price, usually in that order. I'll always pay more to get more, and I don't always mean product, service and a smile goes even further in today's rude, lazy and ignorant service times. I'm glad there are people who still know that, and I'll see them again very soon. I'll have my wallet with me.
