Re: Small problems and missing parts in johnson 9.5

theres one on ebay right now for 15 i can probably afford that in the next couple weeks you just saved me almost 100 bucks

A water pump? ya I'm pretty sure the 7.5 and 9.5 are the same housing, the exploded pic looks identical to my 7.5 housing.

Have a look for yourself

http://www.aomci.org/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1259547923/2#2

The kit includes the impeller, the housing isn't listed as a seperate part, everything looks the same, impeller, bearing plate and pump. F_R would know for sure.

7.5 and 9.5 water pumps are NOT the same. The 9.5 gets the seal on the top of the housing. If you leave it out, it is another possible cause of the motor to not run with the hood on.

Could the seal not be installed on the 7.5 housing?

Buy the complete OEM 9.5 water pump kit BRP #0382296 from any BRP authorized dealer, the housing is included.

and what is the differene between the regular kit (382296) and the chrome kit (379449) is it just a different housing? if so why is it 12 dollars cheaper than the standard kit on marineengine.com

The water tube is made from standard 3/8" OD copper tubing. Anyone with a flaring tool and bending spring could make one if you have something as a guide.

Well, I don't know--maybe if you were to bore the fins out of the cup on top. I never tried it.

jses, are you saying the chrome kit is cheaper? They must be having a fire sale on them. The chrome housing is made of brass and hard chrome plated for wear resistance.

I'll bet there are a bunch of used water tubes running around loose. Somebody will probably offer you one.

i dont know if the chrome one is the whole kit but sierra's price is cheaper but i will probably make my own water tube and that will bring my total down to about 160 for finishing this motor. i think i am gonna get the right kit for my motor instead of risking a cheaper one working and then finding out i wasted my money

Start with 11" of tubing and cut the bottom end 45 degrees. You need a very slight flair or none at the engine eng. You need an offset of about 1" outside to outside somewhere between the shift rod boot and the push nut.

[Edit] the long shaft water tube is 5" longer.

Re: Small problems and missing parts in johnson 9.5

well i see what f r was saying i keep thinking this motor's exhaust housing is alot longer when i look down it and the space between the driveshaft and the exhaust housing where the top of the pump is supposed to go is where that seal sits. and im about to go buy a flaring tool and a bending spring
