225hp Johnson on a 25' Sport Craft WA

Looked at this boat last week, it's a 1999 Sport Craft WA, with a single '99 225 Johnson on it, on a bracket.

Just not sure about how that single 225 would power that 25' boat, and am also not sure about the maneuverability of a boat that size with a single outboard. Plus the engine is on a bracket about 2 feet back from the transom, so it would see like that would make it harder to maneuver also.

Anybody running a similar size boat with a similar HP outboard? How does it move out and is it a nightmare to maneuver, like into a slip or something?

Thanks.

Re: 225hp Johnson on a 25' Sport Craft WA

I would think the 225 would push it just fine. The set back bracket should help the handling of the boat too.

My 21 footer with a 175 does pretty good although my boat is rated for 300hp max.
I can still get 48 mph out of it.

I do not think with the 225 it would be under powered.

Thanks Gary. Any thoughts as to the maneuverability of this boat with a single outboard?

Would the motor on a bracket be better or worse for maneuvering the boat, say into a slip or docking?

Also any insight on Sport Craft boats in general? I don't know a whole lot about them. Are they good or bad quality? It loosk as though the V on this boat isn't as steep as some other 25' boats I have seen. I don't know if that's just the way Sport Craft makes/made their boats or if they designed it like this for a reason.

Thanks.

The engine bracket should not cause any problems with docking.
I know they do really help performance at higher speeds.

I have never really looked over that brand of boat but don't remember anyone saying bad things about them either.
Just check it over good and look for signs of transom rot and the other possible problems.

Thanks tashasdaddy. Any opinion on the single Johnson 225 pushing it?

should have no problems. that design hull has been around for 50 years with little tweaking. great riding boat.
