3.0 hp question

was looking to buy a 2000 sea pro with 3.0 merc and merc outdrive and was wandering the hp difference between 3.0 and my 250 chevy 165 hp L6. THANKS.

the hp difference is about 30 hp.

The 3.0 has been called a 135 or 140hp engine for many years. That number is also supposed to be at the propshaft. So it's got about the same HP at the crank as your 165hp L6, which was measured at the crank.

so would it be safe to say that 3.0 is just as durable and dependable as the 165 L6 . i see in this forum that a lot of boaters have the 3.0 .

Id say very safe..That block has been put into thousands upon thousands of boats, parts are plentiful as well as shops that know them inside and out..

Ayuh,.... The 3.0l is the Exact sister to the I-6 motors,...

Same motor, 2 less holes....

Kinda like the 4.3l, vs. the 5.7l...

If an anvil was an engine, it would be a 3.0L. 'nutcase
