Hello, I am new to the forum and would like to see if I could get a little input on a problem I have with a 1988 Bayliner Capri 3.0 that I purchased last week. I took her out over the weekend and she ran ok except she wouldn't go over 3000RPM's. Any Ideas on a few things I could check out that could cause this.

Thanks.

Did you perform a "on water test" ?
Has the motor been tuned up?
Have the fuel filters been checked/replaced?
Is the prop pitch and dia. correct ?
Has a compression test been done ?
Had carb been verified to open fully with full throttle setting?

It would be advisable to go to the top of this forum and read all the information in the stickies section and download the manuals for your motor and outdrive and read and study all this info for troubleshooting and maintenance on your rig allot of free and usefull info that is pricless for such symptoms you are experiencing. Good luck! and post back the results of your work. clean check and tighten everything electrical, fuel delivery and mechanical after full tune up.

Something else not mentioned. I had a similar problem with a 3.0 and it turned out to be the exhaust flapper rotted off and hung in the drive exhaust passage.

Also if the boat has been sitting for some time ,you may want to make sure excess water has not accumulated in bilge area or under floor and check for soaked foam under floor.

run the pump ,check that is is staying dry down there !

I was ready someplace on the forum about a problem that if the clear tube running up to the top of the carb had water dripping out of it while the motor was running that was in indicator of something... but now of course I can't find that. Does this ring a bell to anyone?

Ayuh,... There's No way there should be Water in it,...
It's a sight tube for Gasoline,...
If there's Gasoline in it, the fuelpump diaphram has ruptured...
