Tilt and Trim Problem

Hi, New to boating and new to the site. Great site, though. Lots of info. I bought a used 16Ft Monarch with a 9.9 Merc. It has a Minkota Power-up Tilt and trim that is controlled by a switch from the throttle stick at the console. For a while, it was hesitating on the initial lift. Press the switch, and the electric motor sounds like it's trying to push, but the motor doesn't move. Then wait a sec and try again, and suddenly it catches and starts to lift. Sometimes, switching the battery toggle from the #1 position to the All position seemed to help, but maybe just coincidental. But now, it's all over. Electric sounds weak and the motor just won't budge at all. Batteries are fully charged. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

For starters check the fluid level and all electrical connections to be sure they are clean and tight.

Re: Tilt and Trim Problem

Thanks Captain Bill, for the reply. This, I see, is the problem with buying a used boat and not having any manuals. I found what I thought looked like the cylinder for the hydrolic fluid, and I opened what looked like a fill hole in the side. I tried to put some fluid in there, but the fluid just leaked out of the bottom of the unit. This, I know, was dumb. I wonder where I could find a manual for an old Minkota Power-up unit?

PM me your e-mail address and I'll send you some info. It's too big to post here.
