Re: Maxxis Tires???

Since when is spending $500 on tires you don't need cheap insurance?

When a semi driver kills your wife or kid standing on the side of the road while your trying to change a tire....

My Maxxis tires where 90 something dollars a piece... not exactly $500 for a single axle....right?

Ah, the old "kill you wife and kids sales" pitch. You gotta love the scare tactics sales pitches. (And I'm a regional Sales Manager) The chances of your wife and kids getting killed on the side of the road changing a trailer tire is equal to, if not greater, than you winning the power ball lottery.

Care to bet? I pay you $500 if you win the power ball lottery in the next 4 years? You pay me $500 if you don't? :D

In the 25 some odds years I've been dragging trailers around I've never had a tire failure and I put more miles on a trailer in a weekend than most do in a year. Over 3K miles in the last 30 days alone. So....either I've been very, very lucky or my tire replacement scheme is working just fine.

Not everybody has a single axle trailer. Maxxis tire for my trailer are $118 each. Multiply that by 4, add mounting and balancing, and your well into $500 per trailer. A multi-million dollar umbrella insurance policy would be more cost effective ;)

I just got quoated $70 at a local tire store to mount and balance 2 tires.

Take them to Walmart, the last set I ordered from TireRack cost $50 for a set of 4 to mount, spin balance and included lifetime rotation and balance.

IMO, spending the money on the tires makes ME feel better. I know I did everything I could to NOT put myself or my wife (or others) in a potentially dangerous situation.

The odds of having a blow out decrease by having new rubber... and thats a fact that you cannot argue.

I hope your luck continues... but I believe in making my own luck.

WORD!

I have personally had 3 blowouts within 500 miles of each other with 6 year old tires on my rv... the last one did some nasty damage this was during hurricane Gustav

I was flat out scary changing on the side of the road in hurricane evac traffic

btw before anyone asks i used my spare and those of two co workers who were also evacuating with me

I now have 2 yr old maxxis tires and in a couple more years I'll replace them again

I think I've made my point... And I think everyone understands it but yourself... which is fine with me. Happy Boating! (and I wish you the best of luck trailering).
