I have an opportunity to purchace a closed cooling system conversion kit, but need some advice. The kit is complete but designed for a center raiser exhast system. I have the log type manifold. would the conversion be the same except for the hoses? or is it more involved than that.
The price offered is almost too good to pass up and if hosing is the only difference a cheap modification.

Ayuh,.... What are We working on,..??

Just the fact you have log manifolds says your driveline is too Old to have much benefit from going closed now...
Is this a Saltwater boat,..??

it is an older 5.7, and it is used mostly in fresh water, the history is that is was used in salt water, and I use it in both fresh/salt. What I was looking at is winter protection and a closed system usually has a higher operating temp making it more effecient.

The manufacturers don't recommend changing over after 125 hours of use. Being as it's an "Older" engine, you may end up plugging up the heat exchanger very quickly with rust and corrosion from the block, on the side that can't be flushed out.

Curious? Which side is that? Seems on my San Juan heat exchanger I can remove the endcap on either end.

The antifreeze side. It now collects all the rust and corrosion from the block and puts it BETWEEN the tubes that you can't get to or see. Under the endcaps is the raw water side.

For All: I have looked at the diagrams and photo's of a closed cooling systme, and taking all that was said into consideration, re-engeering the system to accomidate two wye filters would not be possible. The input into the cooler comes off the return side of the manifold, and Like Don S. said, there is just too much junk in the system not to plug up the core. I suspect the engine has at least 800+ hours more than likely closer to 1200.

Thanks for the input anyway

Found it on eBay, complete system still in wrapper. I suspect the price is up over $500 by now.
