Re: Is your wife a good boater ?

Mine can drive the boat, but I am more comfortable with it on the open lake vs the rivers, creeks and intercoastals. She does not quite understand the water flow in rivers and reading the water for channels...

However, she can also tow trailers and back trailers. She does the boat trailer the best while I drive on and off... She has not gotten the loading/unloading yet... But, there is still time...

But She sure looks good laying across the sundeck, I gotta say.

I agree, everyone knows we love pictures.!!!:D:D

I don't bring my wife to the ramp. I get a buddy to help! It's been hard enough just to convince her to pull the empty trailer when need be so most of the time that it's not worth the effort to try. A buddy will do it for a beer or two and always be in a good mood!

After a few sessions of screaming back and forth in the beginning, my wife is now a integral part of our boating team....it's really tough when she's not there. She's better at teaching people how to wake-board and reverses the the trailer perfectly, better than a lot of men I've seen.

My wife is the one who shines the flashlight at night into your side mirror while backing up. She has a big heart but it stops there!

Re: Is your wife a good boater ?

pretty diverse answers i'd say....

myself, i don't have a wife.... but i do have a girlfriend.

she won't back the trailer.
she won't drive the boat.

she does however, prep everything that goes into the boat for the day. get's the coolers ready with food and beverages. gets all the towels and suntan oil ready. we also usually spend the night on the boat. she gets all that ready too. she also gets up early to make the coffee the next morning. very nice to get up to a nice hot cup of coffee already made...
at the ramp, she takes the boat and ties it up after launch. she also helps prep for launch. she's in the boat, i do the ground work. she also starts the boat once tied up, in the proper sequence i might add. blower, drive down, start, bring to 1krpm.
when coming in. she steps off first to control the boat. after retrieving the boat after the day is done, she drives it up the ramp and to the tie down area.
once in a while, she'll drive the rig home too.

all in all, she does pretty good. but she only does what she wants to do.

she has had safety classes too. so i believe in a pinch, she could operate the boat and she does know the rules and regs...

all in all, a keeper... it'd be nice if she did it all, but then what would i do i guess.

i don't mind that she don't do it all though. i launch by myself easy. so i'm used to doing it all, so whatever she does is a help..... the prep is the biggest help. i always forget something when i go out by myself, with her help, i always have everything i need..

I knew this would be a good one when I saw the topic.

My wife complains that I yell at her when she is driving the truck. But, I had to remind her that I didn't yell until the 4TH time that I said "pull forward" !!

My wife is a old farm girl. She can back the boat with the best of them. We also use walkie talkies, when she backs in the trailer, so she don't have any problems. She has yet to put the boat on the trailer, BUT, I know that she could. She can pull us on tubes, and ski's as well. We ALL prep the coolers, get the towels ready etc. AND when we get home we ALL unload the boat. She has even washed, and polished, the boat !!!!!!! She's a KEEPER as far as I'm concerned !!!!! ;)

WHEN I take her out for a day of fishing we have a ball, until it's time to head in. She'd rather keep on fishing even though we have met our legal limits.

Other than that, she does what she's told without complaint. She has no desire to drive the boat but she knows what to do in an emergency.

She goes with me everytime she asks if there would be room and when there isn't room, she understands completely without complaint.

My wife pulls the boat on and off the trailer, she pulls me tubing, she does it all right along with me. And yes, she looks HOT doing all this! Boating is so much fun for us.

I AM the wife. I am the one that sought out our new boat. The one that took the Power Squadron course. Now he is the one that drives the trailer, and is looking forward to learning about the boat too, and is excited about it, but it was me that pushed for the boat.

Re: Is your wife a good boater ?

My wife is the one that got me started in boating and is teaching me!!!! She has been around boats since birth. She can do it all on the boat. Tried teaching her the whole backing trailer up but it isnt worth it. She can do it but it takes a while and she is going back and forth alot. So I do the Backing and she does the launching and retreival. Works out great and as far as getting the boat ready we both do it. As far as getting coolers ad food ready that is for the 14yr old daughter to do if she wants to be pulled on a tube all day!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Is your wife a good boater ?

My wife is the best boater in the world. Why? Because she is willing to go boating. I've learned that it doesn't matter if she drives the boat, trailer, packs, cleans, or anything. If she is willing to spend her day out on the boat and allow me to divulge in my passion of boating, then that is enough for me.

I'm not trying to suck up to her or discount anyone elses post. I'm just sooooo happy that my wife likes boating.

Re: Is your wife a good boater ?

Seems we have a few fellows that have married horse/ farmgirls that can drive a trailer no problem, myself included....forward, reverse, around darn near anything.

She would rather have me behind the helm though, she thinks the captain is sexy....heck, can not complain about that!

Well, here we are on a cool day, I do not care that she is not that great at the helm, we are having a good time in the cold and that makes her a good boater in my mind.

I'm w/ eliminator to T she looks good laying the sun but as far as being a good boater that's a pretty wide open statement that I will answer like this she has no interest in doing the trailer thing or the launch and retreval thing and thats ok with me because I wouldn't want her showing me up. Merry xmas

Re: Is your wife a good boater ?

The Mate is pretty good at Pulling the trailer out and finding a parking spot. She's OK at backing it up also except that she gets self concious when the ramps busy or she feels like someone is watching. She's only driven the boat a couple times, with no great enthusiasm. I want to get her into a safe boating class this year, maybe it'll help.
