Re: Johnson 1981 V-4 90 no spark on #1
I did replace it but it wouldn't start. Turns out the ignition wire got toasted so I ran a new wire w/fuse (25 amp...will change to 20 thanks) from switch to solenoid. Started right up...except for # 1. Some of the wires coming from under the flywheel looked and feel a little spongy. Blk/yell especially so I cut that wire and inspected it and then butt connected it. When I did that I got spark in #1...but only for a few minutes. disconnecting the stop circuit and starting the engine doesn't cause any changes though (also, same with the rectifier).
I tried to follow the instructions for checking the circuits from stator but when I do the needle on the meter doesn't move...same for the good side. Admitedly, I am electronically inept. Should the meter be set to ohms? (dah!) black test grounded and red to the prongs in the 2 and 4 prong plugs?
bktheking-is that a picture of a toasted stator?
Can a stator be bench tested?.....what could cause ONLY ONE CYLINDER (the SAME one) not to fire? even when you move PP and coils around? A stop circuit couldn't do that could it? It would shut down a side...not just one cylinder...right?
This boat starts right up. I especially like that push choke (primer?)...Would love to see how it is with all cylinders firing.
