Re: Wood deck replacment

From how the cap looks I think so. So then would it go from the back on the transom where the cap stops down under the motor on the transom then back up to the other side where the cap starts again? Was it just gelcoated over? Will there be anything in there that will hold the boat down where the cap is no longer visible?

So I just ripped off some of the bumper to take a look at what is really under it. I took a picture. The visible cap stops right before it turns into the splash well. I am guessing it just goes down from where it ends. Any one have any better ideas or can look at this pic and tell me for sure? Sorry its dark outside.

Well I started grinding today. The front of the cap is loose and I grinded from where the cap ends at the back down next to the splash well then across the transom then back up next to the splash well on the other side to connect the cap to go all the way around. I then tried for a few hours to get the cap to free back there... No luck. Even after grinding through down to the transom I cant pull the cap off. The cap is not budging, and I cant figure out why. Any ideas?

The outboard is off, right?
You removed that aluminum trim U shaped channel from the top of the transom under the engine bracket, right?
The cap along with the splash well are most likely all one unit. The splashwell area might fit up under the transom portion that is obviously part of the lower hull.
In the world of mass production it is a hurry up, throw it together operation. Highly unlikely that they want to take the time to glass and gelcoat the upper half with the lower half anywhere.

Yeah the outboard and such is off. Looks like the splash well is stuck to the backside of the transom. thats going to be hard to free. Any ideas other then just try to get a pry bar in between to try to free it?

Ha ha! That is great! I love the bottle jack idea. Tried it the second I had a moment. I had high hopes for it. Did not work. Started to crack the splash well. I am thinking about seeing if I can get in there enough to cut the transom skin off to get the splash well free. I am doing the transom anyways so the skin is going to have to come off. Does this sound like it could work? Also I have some pretty nice chunks of gelcoat falling off while working on the thing and like I said had to cut the cap the rest of the way with a grinder. It will be able to be repaired right up with a good can of gelcoat right? Just want to make sure.
