If you only need one twice a year I'd lean towards renting one or making friends with someone who owns a 28-30' rig that can be bribed with beer;)

If you live that close to a lake there should always be trailers at a local marina that you could rent.

Newbie boaters just don't get it. The trailer is the most important part of the inverstment - also the cheapest.

Just read the thread cited above. Not much fun. He got an ultra cheap trailer didn't he!

Doesn't matter if its 3 miles or 3 blocks. If the trailer fails and the boat hits the pavement it doesnt mater if its right in front of your house.

I've never been there myself, but I've seen it happen more times than I care to. And a few of the times it was too close to me for comfort.

Agreed, no such thing as a SUPER CHEAP Trailer, unless you want Alpheus' trailer...

Search Boattrader and your local papers. Also make some calls to the marinas, they may know of some for same. But be sure you get a sturdy one, don't skimp on that. Getting a good deal, that is another story...

for that size boat new is about 6500-7000 so a very used pos trailer will still be over 2k if you can't afford the trailer or moorage how will you afford to use the boat (fuel maint. etc.)?

Bottom line is do not cheap out on a trailer. That is if you wish to actually use it for what it was originally designed for. Collapsing on the highway or other road with your beloved boat on it will soon change your mind.
Look for deals on Kijiji or similar but a thorough inspection is vital.

I bought my Wellcraft sans trailer. I bought one on Ebay for $700. Had to drive to Cleveland to get it, but it was a good deal.

yes but your wellcraft doesn't weigh 11,000 lbs dry and 30' at the water line. (if it is the boat in your post) you won't find a $700 trailer for that boat unless it is scrap metal and rust.

Buying and maintaning a trailer for what you are doing is not cost effective. Look in the yellow pages for boat hauling. For around $100 each way you can have a professional haul your boat out and launch it in the spring. It's cheaper than licensing and insuring your own trailer. You will need to come up with suitable blocking and supports for your boat.

So has this 30' Bayliner morphed into a 28' Wellcraft Monte Carlo?
