So there I was all proud of myself for R&Ring the water pump and housing assembly, full kit... impeller, seals, housing & housing plate, yada yada...nearing the end, I struggled a tad getting the water tube to line up with the impeller housing when reattaching to the exhaust housing, but finally bolted all back up and it was miller time...clean up the tools and the mess, all the while happily thinking about the money I saved by doing it myself and some knowledge gained to boot.

Being that the old parts were in fine enough shape to keep for possible needs in the future, I gathered them up to place in the box the new parts shipped in...here's what I had, notice anything peculiar?.....

brilliant I'm not...

Yep, seems when I had to remove the new housing to place the o-ring I forgot between the housing plate and driveshaft impeller key, the impeller liner decided to slip-out while waiting on the bench, and then hang around quietly and watch...grrr... Think I would of realized when the driveshaft, turned much easier the second time while encasing the impeller into the housing.

So anyways, tomorrow I get to do it all over again...At least I won't be able to mess up again until next year{lol}... Goodbye and good riddance 2009 hello 2010 and Happy New Year to you all, may it be a joyous and prosperous one for us all!

yea, I just did my water pump and that housing liner always slips out. Put a little adhesive on it to hold it in place.

Only perfect practice makes perfect.

Imperfect practice usually makes us wiser.. . . but not perfect.

Once you get over the mindset thing......oh no, I gotta go through that again, the job goes much faster as you are now an expert; well at least better than you were the first time.....and remember to put the little key in the impeller slot on the crankshaft.

Good luck,

Mark

Jasper...Thanks for the tip!

JB...Most of my imperfect practice happens while seated, maybe thats why I'm a wise A$* at times? Wifey sez thats a 'perfect' description of me :D

Mark...mindset thing is easy when theres no 'real' money involved...this kit came with two keys, the larger off-whiteish one was replaced....did I miss another location? Garage is just about warm enough now to head out and get after 'er...

"the job goes much faster as you are now an expert; well at least better than you were the first time"---Oh yeah..I think I could rock an entire ignition rebuild out in under 10 minutes :)

"Imperfect practice usually makes us wiser"---yup..the first dozen or so times I did it..forgot stuff..forgot how that stuff went in..forgot what page of the manual that was on..forgot to put that dang little clip in..forgot to tighten down that screw, bolt..forgot that damn grommet..etc etc

Still learning, always will be (this site a HUGE help) and enjoying the time spent bringing the old iron back to life. Very rewarding to take a 50+ year old motor from dirty, beat, non-running condition to near mint condition..throwin' it on the back of the boat and having it start & run like new after 1 pull.. :):)

After awhile, it isn't practice anymore...just stuff you do when you're really bored and gotta do something...with time on your hands. I like to arrange stuff on the bench in the order it comes off, so I can get it all back in there...another thing you learn with practice.

My biggest problem is staying organized, usually biting off more than I should chew at one time lol...
