I had a really good January 1st today, perhaps the best one ever, and wanted to share it.
My 69yr. old father and I drove 7 hrs. one-way to look at some beagles yesterday (rabbit dogs--not pets). I consider myself rather talented at listening to people and determining what kind of character they have, and the seller seemed honest and knowledgeable enough to base a 7 hr. drive on, in my opinion. My dad was---let's just say "skeptical", but is always up for a wild goose chase so he went with me.
We saw the dogs on a quick hunt and I immediately purchased them and shook hands and went home, totally excited and eager to test them out.
Some of you guys that don't hunt with dogs have NO IDEA how hard it is to find even a decent hunting dog, must less 3 at once for a price a working man can afford!
Our first hunt was today and the dogs were just fabulous. My dad and 8yr. old son and I were all having a GREAT time listening to the dogs run and watching the rabbits pull all of their sneaky tricks they use to throw the dogs. My dad and I each bagged a rabbit in front of the dogs after a couple of circles and let the last one go, who was really crafty and crossed a slough twice, which the dogs had no problem crossing as well.
It was really a good day, and I'm grateful for it.
Here's a pic and I hope I didn't bore you guys too much with the story.
