Hello to everyone,
I just installed Windows 7 on my older daughters Emachine model# T2792 which took really good except the on-board video card doesn't support the 32 bit version Windows 7. When I go to the troubleshoot section on Windows 7 it says I need to upgrade my display adapter/video card to Direct X, 9.0 or better. There is so many video cards out there I am not sure which one to purchase that will be compatible with my Emachines T2792 and will work with Windows 7. Can you experts out there recommend a video card/display adapter to purchase? Thanks for your help, Bob.

I have just a basic VGA card inside of it that is integrated in with the mother board. It has the original Emachines mother board in it. I believe it is an Imperial Mother baord.

Do,
I have upgraded my RAM to 1 GB so that should suffice to run Windows 7, 32 bit. It is just I habe 64MB of shared video that is integrated with the motherboard that is the issue. I did see this Video Card I think is compatible with my Emachines just not sure about the Windows 7. What do you think? See video card below.

HIS Radeon 9250 / 256MB DDR / PCI / DVI / VGA / TV Out / Video Card

Have you tried to download and install directx 9?. If yer adapter runs it, yer good to go. If not, you will have to download it anyway, so you don't even lose the download time.

Just about any modern video card will work. You have to get one that fits the video interface slot in the mother board, or if it doesn't have one, one of the buss interface slots. You determine which and what by reading the technical specs for the mother board.

hope it helps

I just looked up yer machine. The Intel 82845G graphics controller on that mainboard is direct x compatible. Just download directx 9 and install it.

Just about any graphics intensive program, like a drafting program, or many game programs will want the latest directx driver. I've not seen a pentium class machine fail to install it.

hope it helps

Just for your info, the graphics adapter in this machine is built into the CPU controller chipset by Intel. Intel is the site that said it's compatible with directx all versions.

Go to the Emachine support page.
Search for the chipset drivers then update them.
Then try the Direct X download.
It may be the older chipset firmware that won't except that verion of direct X.

Just a thought...:)

I think Tail Gunner has the best info...just an older machine and the motherboard won't accept the newer graphics cards. It just has the onboard graphics.

I was doing some reading on Windows 7 and they say 4 gigs of ram is suggested.
I thought 7 was a cleaner operating system...

Download the latest version of DX, if that dosnt work i would recomend a new computer that already has Windows 7. The graphic card upgrade is about $60 and you will most likly have issues with it. I am pretty into computers and e-machines dont take upgrades very well since they are so intergrated, you can get a new emachine with windows 7 for $300-$400.

Good luck, things never seem to go right with computers when you want them to!:D

"If you want to run Windows 7 on your PC, here's what it takes:

1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor

1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)

16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)

DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver"

got this streight from windows site, rule of thumb is to go one gig higher then required, since what is listed as required is bare min and will be a bit slow running multiple programs, considering the user I am sure she will be doing a lot in internet stuff Facebook, myspace and so on, so the more ram the better!

My guess is you don't need any Direct X drivers. They are shipped in Win7 package like they have been in all OS products since Win98. If they didn't load during the install, your video adapter is incompatible. You're probably going to have to install a later video adapter and disable the onboard if it doesn't happen automatically. On some it does.

Re: Need Video Card for Emachines T2792 to support Windows 7

That's a pretty old machine. If you keep researching, you'll find several potential issues. Others haven't had much luck getting the bios to turn off the onboard graphics. Recommended replacement motherboards are AGP so you'll need to open up the case to see if you even have a slot for a pcie card. There's little sense in buying an obsolete video card that you can't transfer to another machine in the future. The chipset may support all DX drivers - but it's up to the date it was manufactured. Sometime around 2005?

Your best bet is to take it into a local computer shop and have them take a look and make a recommendation. Since it's an obsolete and proprietary platform, that's really the only way to know.
