How much you walk will make a lot more difference than what you eat, Rob.

Good luck. :)

Re: as was said "It now begins"

Since we're doing disclosures, I was at 271 this morning and turn 51 later this week. I'm a few weeks into lifting, stretching, and combined walk/run on a treadmill at the YMCA. I'm trying to go at least 5 days a week, but am staying aware of any warning signs that I'm overdoing things. Will get on the bike (road) when it's a bit warmer as an alternative to running. I may also give in to spousal pressure and add some swimming to the mix.

I'm going to research a site I read about in Men's Helath magazine. It's called Belly Off! Here's a link: http://www.menshealth.com/bellyoff/
I think they have a tracking feature, but for now, I'm keeping my own stats on a spreadsheet I created on Google so I can access it from anywhere.

Re: as was said "It now begins"

years ago, i lost 70lbs, it really is a life style change. i had a desk job. walking at first, then progressing to jogging. I cut out all fried foods, McDonalds, etc. went to the produce dept, pick out the prettiest apples, and other fruit i liked, kept them in the office. visual appearance of food makes it taste better. steamed veggies, are great.

also remember a serving size is the same size as a deck of playing cards.

it was such a life changing experience, i ate that way for years. now back to 200 because of cheating. starting again.

That's my problem. A serving size for me is the size of a laptop. :p

I'm in, 280# at 5'10". Gotta get it off too.

I need to loose 60 pounds also. I am very active but man do I like good food.
Some people drink, some people like drugs. My addiction is food. Good luck Rob and all others as I to am gong to do it. I think if I can stop smoking I can loose the weight. The biggest thing for me portion control with more exercise.

Hey Rob{rbh}, just caught your update edit...same here, but the mrs is taking them all to work tomorrow to pass around and/or send home with those wanting. She's joining in so that will definitely be a plus here{man she can cook/bake just like grandma could}. I've actually had a head start as I've been suffering thru a nasty stomache virus for the past three days...an apple, banana and half a turkey sandwich was pushing my luck today...good thing is no soda now for three days either, although I drink diet, I don't think it helps any at all...I'm sure you've heard the joke - I'll have two big macs, large fries and a diet cola..lol least I'm not a fast food fanatic, more of a see food fan ;)

I too am trying to lose again, quit smoking 3 different times before it stuck, 20 lbs each time, no exercise, exercise and watching what you each as well the portions will work wonders, you just gotta do it just like I gotta start going upstairs and using the equipment that I have up there. Good luck to you all and me too. :D

5'11" 334 lbs, although i started a little over 2 months ago. i decided to start loosing weight when i could not be weighted on the doctors scale. 30 minutes of cardio followed by about 45 minutes to an hour of light weights. im loosing about 1 pound a week but in two months i have dropped a shirt and a pant size. should we post before pics? i keep my worst pic on the fridge as a reminder that i never want to look like that again.

Re: as was said "It now begins"

A quick "CNN" fact from their doctor this morning, if you quite smoking you have a 60% chance of developing type 2 diabetes due to the fact that you are now binjing on more sugar/fatty products to make up for the cravings.
smoking suppress appetite and raises metaballic rate. take that away and the old bods looking for a junk food fix. so be carefull

Re: as was said "It now begins"

i read a story on cnn a while ago about a guy who wanted to lose weight. he drank 12oz of water before eating, drinking, or smoking a cig. whatever he wanted, had to drink the water first. he said it wasn't that hard and worked great. i've read alot of workout books, they often say people eat when they're thirsty. i know i should drink more water.

Re: as was said "It now begins"

Update...
20 lbs lighter officially this morning...just from cutting out the junk stuff. Still have a long way to go, but hey, it's a start! And...my resto's just about done, so... soon to be eating 'really fresh' fish :D and...it means I can add another twenty pounds of tackle to lug aboard ;)

Anyone else staying with it?

Re: as was said "It now begins"

That is a really good start HopeSheFloats. I turn 40 this year (in a month and a half, in fact), and I decided a little over a year ago that I wasn't going to meet 40 at 300+ Lbs. I've been on a steady regimen of watching what I eat, portion control, avoiding processed foods (high in added fats, sugars, and worthless carbohydrates) while adding natural nutrients back into my diet (fruits, vegetables, nuts, beans, unprocessed meats, whole grains, etc), and religiously going to the gym at least 3 days a week for a half hour of cardio and a half hour of weightlifting. I'm down to 200 Lbs. Went from a size 44 waist to a size 32-34 (depending on the brand), and most importantly from a body fat percentage of approx 31% to my present 14%. Its all about small steps, small goals, and realizing that I didn't get up to 300 Lbs in a week or a month, so taking it off was going to be a long-term effort.
A real eye-opener for me was keeping a food journal. It helped me to catch those times that I didn't think I was eating much, but was in fact taking in hundreds of extra calories (like if I was clearing the table after dinner, and my daughter didn't touch her pasta, or her meat. I would finish it off thinking "that stuff was good, and I'm not gonna just throw it in the trash"). A journal also lets you keep a record of weight loss, and if you can correlate the two (weight loss and food intake) you can see patterns like what foods cause you to gain weight, what meals tend to leave you wanting more, etc.

Good luck to you in reaching your goals.
