check for spark
if no spark unplug the white wire from CDI box

if you get spark, you need to check the safety lanyard

If no spark, also check the kill button.
I have a late eighties 9.9 with a red rubber kill button on the tiller handle and it collapsed enough to ground out the ignition resulting in no spark

I read though the Manual and it seams pretty easy. I need to Buy a Fluke Meter and learn to use that before i can go any further. I'll keep you informed. Thanks!!!

i unplugged both wires on the stop botton and pulled the rope with the sparkplug out of the head but plugged in to the coil and got nothing. then i connected the two wires together and pulled again with nothing. i also tried with the stop botton hooked up, and unpluged the white wire from the black ignition box on the back of the motor and still nothing.

i checked them and all was good, one thing a noticed the black box on the top of the head (not the coil) is not tight on one side.it has a little play. i tried to tighten the bolt but it won't tighted any more, now the side with the black wires under the bolt was tight. there was no corrosion on any on the wires that i can see.
