1950's and purposely runs it half to full throttle WHILE NOT EVEN IN WATER,and and let's the motor blow a piston rod. After you see the video, read some of the comments others made to this idiot for doing such a thing. This guy needs a swift kick in the *****!

Just another immature kid. It honestly doesnt surprise-I go to high school and it amazes me at how much intelligence America's youth is lacking...It is a scary thought people-this is the future.

The young folks these days are sitting in front of the TV, computer or a video game, not learning much useful, practical knowledge. I had my 12 year old grandson in my shop the other day and clamped a piece of wood in the vise and he said,"what is that?", talking about the darn vise! He had never seen one! What you gonna do with that? Too bad about that old motor!

Check out the comments too. So many young people have no respect for property or others. Sad. If I tried to teach my kids anything, it was the value of mutual respect.

Agreed. It's up to us old guys to teach them how to fish, how to work on boats, and how to respect each other and how to take care of the environment. (Sometimes I think that daytime television and reality TV shows are turning our nation into a bunch of morons.)

Bunch of morons..but we were all young once. I remember doing a lot of things then that I would never do now.

Ya....I never did anything disrespectful like that to an inanimate object when I was a kid.

I would have sold the motor, bought a bag of weed, and had a party while my parents where out of town instead. :D:D

Is that thing actually worth anything close to 400? Or is a rare collectible in any way? It is his property and he can do whatever he wants with it.

I don't know guys, to me it seems he was just starting the engine to show his friends how it ran,....{not realizing should be in water} and it blew, he looks pretty surprised when it blew. besides that if it were on purpose, since his buddy has video runing, you would think he would of played it up more. just seemed to me like an honest mistake by a young kid, and we all have made them. just my opinon

It's up to us to teach them. The parents/schools won't.
My 8 year old son took apart and reassembled the air filter on my old Honda trail bike - when he was 5! He also reads, plays sports and all the rest but I make sure he respects machinery and the outdoors. He is learning how to handle a boat, play a large fish (10 pound plus salmon) and last week he repaired the tire tube on his electric motor bike (mostly by himself).
It isn't always easy to teach them and it usually makes a job that will take 10 minutes end up taking an hour, but if we don't teach them then who will?

That kid's a complete moron. If I had something like that available to me when I was that young, it would have been fixed and a little tinny found for it. I was mad enough that my uncle used his tinny as a rain catch when I REALLY wanted some kind of boat to fish in! My uncle called it "frugal"... I called it a waste.

Have to ask, ever hear a motor throw a rod at 4000rpm from a foot away? He got scared because it isn't peaceful... definitely wasn't an honest mistake (especially after reading the comments).

Yeah, you gotta read the comments. The kid did it on purpose and then decided to smash it up with a sledge hammer. It is the kid's motor, so he could do with it what he wants. But you have to question the kid's intelligence. I've known and worked with a lot of kids his age (assuming high school/college), and I think most of the one's I've known would be a little more industrious. Now a jr. high kid...well, that's another story...but then again a lot of jr. high kids I've worked with wouldn't have done something so stupid.

Sounds familiar, dingbat, but at least you would have been demonstrating constructive entrepreneurial spirit!

As far as intention, here's the guy's caption for the vid: "We wanted to see how long this old evinrude would run wide open out of water. It didnt run wide open, but it still threw a rod."

And you're absolutely right erikpn, it's his and he can do whatever he wants with it. I think it's the comments with all the attitude that bothers me the most.
