does a old 40hp johnson have a choke solenoid

i know where there is a old 40hp power johnson outboard motor pobabley in the late 60s or early 70s does it have a choke solenoid i need one for my boat motor it is not a johnson but i thought i could make it work i can have the motor for free but its a little bit of a drive it is at a scrape yard were i used to work i talked to a freind who still works there the bottom end is gone but he said it still has the carb on it and he dosent know what i mean about the solenoid thanks

electric start should have a choke solenoid. model# of the motor?? rope start will have a knob to pull.

Some of those 60s Johnnys/Evinrudes 40 HP motors had hot water ot hot air operated chokes. They did not have solenoids.

Some of those 60s Johnnys/Evinrudes 40 HP motors had hot water ot hot air operated chokes. They did not have solenoids.

1960 thru 1963 had hot water heated automatic chokes / no solenoid
1964 thru 1970 had hot air heated automatic chokes / AND solenoid
1971 up have solenoids and NO automatic choke

i tried to look up the part on iboats but cant find it the motor is a 1985 force 50 any suggestions were to look on iboats thanks

Whoa, Force and Johnson are two different worlds. There is a Force/Chrysler forum on this iboats website.
